Well, you could be right. But then again at times, people seems to ask for the more shiny sticker. They ask AMD to provide "acceptable competition", only to buy cheaper Intel and Nvidia hardware. Even when AMD's hardware is as good or even better for their needs and wallet.
Plus people idolise RT performance but it is completely shit in portal on the best Nvidia has to offer as well, dlss or something is needed to make it useable on portal and quake.

Few modern games use RT thousands DON'T and those that do either partially use it run poorly or need help to get acceptable frame rates.

For a large number of owners/gamer's it's just not important at all and.

Only leet hardware owners even care, IE a niche of our niche give a shit.

We can only hope that RDNA3 is a worthy competitor to lower the prices.
The problem with that is, that people want AMD to force Ngreedia to lower their prices to...buy Ngreedia...

I am tired of their abuses, total lack of respect to their customers, us the gamers (remember how they sold directly to miners and then pretended to care for us?).

Nah, my money is going to AMD regardless of whatever Lord Jensen offers.

And what's with the attacks? Did I insult you personally in my first comment? It's just a computer connector.
I apologise wholeheartedly. That bile was mostly triggered by others in this thread who appear to be capable of no more mental capability than parroting "NVIDIA IS TEH EBIL" and refusing to listen to any sort of reason otherwise. As someone who believes in discourse as an avenue to discern truth, that offends me to the core of my being.

I am aware. The x80 card is now equivalent to the old x70 cards. Nvidia won't get better until people stop buying their products at these insane prices.
Yea, until the wallet gets hit nothing is going to change.

Yea I agree, when AMD has been on top or at least right in the running it seems like people chose not to buy the products and the consequences are what we see now. Though cards like the Vega 64 didnt help as they were not good long term investments.

Yea, lets be honest here, most people are not going to use RT except in select games and only on the highest end cards because the performance hit is massive. But thats not the main reason people buy Nvidia, its more name recognition than anything else as it has a better name in the gaming community. Again what needs to happen are two things:

1: The RX 7900 XT and XTX need to be very good (At a bare minimum better than the RTX 4080)
2: People need to go out and support them

Once that happens we will get change.

But the reality is the reason the pricing is like it is besides Nvidia wanting more money is because they have so many RTX 3080, 3080ti's, 3090's , and 3090 ti's and dont want to discount them an extreme amount. Because if the price of the RTX 4080 was say $800 and we know its performance is above the 3090ti, then those prices would have to be well below which would crash all the cards in the lineup. Now its obvious thats what should have happened, however I am guessing the inventories of those cards were significantly higher than normal and they were not willing to write off that much money.

About RT, we have to forgive the ones that continue parroting that and the reason being disclosed after the second part of my comment.
But in my eyes, until I can get full RT at 4K@120 FPS on a US$400 GPU (easily 3 gens away) AND not needing to pause a game to admire the reflections on a puddle, I call RT a gimmick.

About the Nvidia name recognition, as above, the less capable people have no choice but to want and desire Nvidia.

Why? Simple, go to youtube and tell me how many thumbnails have AMD GPUs and how many have Nvidias?

Again, how many of those videos have builds with AMD GPU's and how many with Nvidia?

And then, you have sites like TechSpot, which will go out of their way to include a photo of either a 4090 (before it was always a 3090) or a photo of Lord Jensen for whatever the article is. Better yet, read carefully and see how they have articles about GPU's and "somehow" they manage to write it without mentioning AMD not even once.

Sample in how they post Nvidia thumbnails for no real reason (read the comments and see how the staff defends their actions):

Or how a "writer" can write an article about GPU's without mentioning AMD:

So, what would a weak minded consumer think? That only Nvidia makes GPUs' and if somehow you hear that AMD makes GPU's, the overwhelming presence of pro nvidia media would make you doubt the capabilities of any AMD GPU's.

At this point, I refuse to call them reviewers and call them influencers (including being bribed).

In the end, AMD just doesnt have a chance.

I mean I agree with you, but there are times where AMD did make mistakes and that has also hurt their reputation with a few releases. Nvidia has had alot more money to play around with which makes it easier to sponsor and put their name out there. They are now competitive again and showing that they can come within spitting distance of the top dog cards. Doing this is helping people have faith again and if the 79XX series competes, has a decent supply, and keeps its price at the MSRP then I have a feeling it will start clawing back market share this time around.

I think AMD has a chance this time around if the GPUs give sufficient performance. if a 7900XTX is around 4090 it is an enormous win for consumers. If it is a bit slower but faster than 4080 16GB it is a win nonetheless. I'm really surprised people keep praising RT in a way this is the only way of gaming nowadays. It is such a stretch and you are doing the bidding for NV guys.

? My logic is performance that used to cost $1600 now costs $1200, and will probably cost $999 pretty soon, while drawing 200 W less power.
Imo, that viewpoint only makes sense when you're looking at the flagship/halo products and the 4080 ain't that. Can you imagine selling the next generation consoles at double the price and "it's reasonable because hey, it's still better perf/dollar". No, because everyone expects consoles to hit a certain price point and they're designed with that in mind.

The only reason nvidia is charging these outrageous prices is because scalpers have shown them that they can and people will still pay for it. So why should this sweet, sweet moolah end up in the hands of anyone else other than nvidia? Jensen won't stand for it anymore.

And if by some reason, it really wasn't possible for this card to hit $650 or whatever sane MSRP then that's a failure on nvidia's part.

As opposed to who? AMD? With their 7900XTX card also priced at $999 that by their own words competes with the 4080?
I do see your point but inevitably times change.
It has always been the case as that's why they bring out new stuff and the new stuff should make the last gen fade out due to irrelevancy while keeping it in the price range with expected deviations.
I don`t think many people would be so bothered by a reasonable price increase.
Example: " Due to the current world situation, we want to apologies ahead as we must increase the price of the tier by 125/150$"
Instead the expected volume of sales is low in comparison with the mining-covid era; they want to keep the same cash-flow on regular consumer`s backs.
500$ price increase for the same tier is a crime in my consumer eyes.

Marketing scheme that pushes artificial live in the old gen in which the only one that looses is the consumer.

You’ve got some seriously weird takes. $200-$400 less for better rasterization performance than an rtx 4080 depending on the model. Comparable in a few RT games and provides playable performance in others with ~3090 RT performance if you’re one of those oddballs stuck on that irrelevant metric. 7900 XTX is consistently sold out, with frequent restocks on AMDs webstore and sold out at every other e tailer when stock is available. Yet RTX 4080 models are still generally available weeks after release and almost (have never?) never sold out.

Not competitive seems like a very odd conclusion there.

It's faster than a 3090ti so at 1000 or 1100 it's reasonable.
...
no

AD103 is 379sq/mm
GA102 is 628sq/mm

Also, AD103 carries 16GB, GA102 had 24GB on the 3090ti.

Even with a more costly node, 1000 is hard to defend, unless you include the arguments greed and opportunism.

Well custom XTX costs just as much as custom 4080 cards here in the UK, so they aren't really better value, as KitGuru noted on their review:

The one thing that is just giving me cause for concern right now is – you guessed it! – pricing. While currently out of stock here in the UK, the card launched at about £1300 at OCUK, making it £100 more expensive than some RTX 4080s currently on the market.

This was a worry for me when the 7900 XTX launched. It's all well and good for the reference card to come in at £999 – but custom cards still need to be cheaper than the RTX 4080 for the 7900 XTX to offer any meaningful value. As good as Sapphire’s design is, if you can get something with similar overall performance, but with DLSS support and superior ray tracing, for £100 less…. well, the 7900 XTX becomes very hard to justify.
