NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 16 GB Laptop SKU Spotted in Next-Gen HP Omen 17 Laptop

According to the well-known hardware leaker @momomo_us, HP is preparing the launch of its next-generation Omen 17 gaming laptops. And with a new generation of chips coming to consumers, HP accidentally made some information about laptop SKUs public. Four models are listed, and they represent a combination of Intel's 13th-generation Raptor Lake mobile processors with NVIDIA's Ada Lovelace RTX 40 series graphics cards for the mobile/laptop sector. The four SKUs are: CM2007NQ/CM2005NQ with Core i7-13700HX & RTX 4060 8 GB; CM2001NQ with Core i7-13700HX & RTX 4070 8 GB; CK2007NQ/CK2004NQ with Core i7-13700HX & RTX 4080 12 GB; CK2001NQ with Core i7-13700HX & RTX 4090 16 GB.

The most exciting find here is the appearance of the xx90 series in the mobile/laptop form factor, which has not been the case before. The GeForce RTX 4090 laptop edition is supposedly equipped with 16 GB of VRAM, and the GPU SKU should be a cut-down version of AD102 GPU adjusted for power and clock constraints so it can run within a reasonable TDP. With NVIDIA seemingly giving its clients an RTX 4090 SKU option, we have to wait and see what the CUDA core counts are and how clocks scale in a more restricted laptop environment.

Like usual, the mobile version has nothing to do with the desktop version, because of the power constrains.
Don't know why they don't rename the mobile version differently, like, at least, 4090M.
Pascal was the most interesting mobile generation, neing on par (almost) with the desktop versions.

Yeah, I agree, they should rename the mobile generations.

If a graphics card requires a foot long, quad slot cooler, there's no way the chip they put inside a laptop is anything similar to the desktop part.

This goes for ANY brand. There needs to be a separate name, or at least the 'M' suffix as mentioned.

After Pascal nVidia brought the end of the stupid mobile naming scheme, unfortunately with Ampere they went back to their old stupidity.

just the opposite for me, i like the portability of a gaming laptop, i can't take a desktop to my friends house or travel with a desktop that easily. i'd prefer no battery at all actually, and better cooling, there is always an outlet nearby wherever I am at.

There's been so many laptop reviews that have demonstrated that, for example, a mobile 3080 is actually faster than a mobile 3080ti because of the thermal and power limitations....I'm still surprised people even buy laptops with a 3080ti or now, a 4090, in them when you can get same or better performance for less a tier down.

I can totally see it now, the new gen of laptops is just a 4090 with an OLED screen on it. Everything else fits inside.

Add a mobile-ish-gamepad addon and you're good to go!

Given it's going to have the same memory bandwith as the 4080, i'd say its based on that chip and not the 4090. And if it's anything line previous releases it will be closer to desktop 4070, so wtf nvidia?

Naming scheme aside, I think this mobile gen from nvidia will be unbeatable, we already saw how good underclockers their desktop cards are, they have the process advantage and they always managed to stay ahead, even when it wasn't the case (3000 series vs 6000)

And you believe those chips are from the exact same assembly line as the consumer, desktop graphics cards?

Mobile versions are cherry picked ones; or chips that did'nt meet the desktop qualification but could still be used at lower clocks or with 1/3rd missing shaders and all that.

That's normal for mobile GPUs, and has been for a long time.

Mobile is gonna be fun, 4nm ada GPUs, based on the 4090's efficiency, are gonna be ballin, the real question is how well will the RX 7000 series do? The 6700m/s and 6800m/s/xt gave nvidia a good pounding in the mGPU space.

To paraphrase your own words (my bit in bold): Must be used at lower clocks, and 1/3rd shaders missing. It's not a 4090. Let's not pretend. I agree, it'll give great performance but it's a mobile 4090. Very different operational specs.

Interesting Idea... What if they removed the battery or greatly slimmed it down so it's literally and unabashedly just a built-in UPS with a runtime of minutes and an alarm to warn the laptop is unplugged? That would be cool, literally, there would be a lot more room in there for cooling and playing games on the couch would be a lot easier.

Or even better: the battery bay can either hold a real battery or some extra cooling capacity so when the user is close to AC power for long periods of time, the battery can be removed and better cooling installed instead.

I hate how they are allowed to use the name 4090 in a part that has nothing to do with the 4090 in anyway. Laptop parts should have different names and at least call it a 4080 which is closer to the truth.

I'm getting plenty of use out of my GTX 1080/ Core i7 Alienware R4.
