The Witcher 3 Next-Gen Update Adds Higher-res Textures, Ray Traced GI, DLSS and FSR 2

@AsRock or anyone

The next Witcher 3 update today, I am playing it, but the camera angle is really weird, its more zoomed in Mass Effect style, I do not like it, is there anyway to go back to the old camera style while keeping the next gen update?

Yeah i actually ended up making a new thread as apparently you cannot search for news posts HAHA. So when i actually did find this thread i asked them to delete my thread but they just locked it, maybe they will now HA.

Fix the searches already.

Anyways, be a while before i try it, kinda pointless on my current card.

nm I got the stuttering issue fixed, had to enable blur and motion blur and it made it go away, read about it on another forum. weird.

also if anyone knows how to change the camera view back to pre next gen update normal please let me know

eeww, i hope they fix that, cannot stand blur in any game.

it beats the hell out of stuttering. for as much love as witcher 3 gets, its a shit optimized game. lol

AND I WANT THE OLD CAMERA ANGLE BACK FUCK THIS MASS EFFECT CAMERA STYLE

There's one mystery bigger than blur, imo: film grain.

I only have seen film grain once in a game where I didn't mind it, and that was Mass Effect 2, every other game I turn it off though.

Where is the game? I don't see it on Steam. Or is it distributed as a patch to the original?

If you go to your games library, you should see your original Witcher 3 listing but now it should say "update required" as it is being treated as a patch (4.0), you can download the update from there.

DX12 Ultra+ no RT is awful
DX11 Ultra+ no RT is great.

DX12 has serious issues. Low GPU utilization with low fps, almost no fps drop when enabling 1 or 4 types RT. The ipact is the same.

If you want t.o play it but don't plan on using RT then you should be loading the DX11 version.

Ah, so it's an update! That's why I didn't catch it - it's not installed. :ohwell:

Is this with the lastest 527.56 WHQL installed?

Really nasty stutters, looks kinda degraded visually, sure, the RT lighting is nice in a way, makes it different, not sure I I like it more vs the original art style.
Feels sort of buggy overall.

There are a couple of settings in Gameplay, turn all camera setting to default and you will get rid of that weird camera. I thought it was a bug initially

Ahhhhh I see, no install and therefore not showing even if it is in your library installed or not seems odd.

gameplay section... fml. i was looking at display/video/graphics sigh.

ty mate!

patch to the original. i got it sorted now. :) camera settings are under gameplay, thanks felix!

RT is heavy duty stuff. Ultra preset + ray tracing + DLSS balanced = 27-35 fps at 1440p with a 3060 Ti and 12600K. It looks good though especially indoors. But you would need at least a 3080 to get it close to 60 fps. And for some reason RTSS is not working with this update

FSR is pure shit, I tried it in Balanced mode in witcher 3 4.0, and yeah its a blurry mess. No idea who in their right mind would ever use it.

Yes I used the newest drivers @The King

@droopyRO I was looking at around 50% utilization on a 3090 with full RT enabled right outside the Passiflora.34fps at 1080p with DLSS Quality. I know it's Novigrad but it's not right.

Something is wrong with engine and DX12 or something.

When RT is enabled, the game become quickly CPU bound, Even with a 13900K. It might not be possible right now to get really good RT perf with current CPU.

Might need a 7xx0 X3D or next gen intel to acheive stable FPS above 60. It's not being hold back top end GPU right now.

Yup, gotta be the worst FSR 2.x implementation I have ever seen, not even the quality preset is very ok, in Cyberpunk for example, for me FSR 2.x does make the visuals even better cause of the horrible native AA, but in W3 its just bad. Feels more like a FSR 1.0 upscale.

For me it was in the 85-90% GPU usage as reported by Nvidia's overlay. I wonder if it is something that could be fixed with driver or game updates.
FSR is pure shit,
I have not tried FSR just DLSS. I see no diference between it and FSAA/TAA. But for me it can be fixed by enabling sharpness.

ok maybe that is what i did wrong, maybe i didn't have sharpness on when i turned on FSR. bleh. so many settings I can't stand it anymore. i miss the old ps2 days, the developers just give me the best experience possible - and thats it we done we game!

just read this. ok glad its not just me.

7950X & 4090

4K Ultra+ RT on, DLSS on balanced = 80fps
4K Ultra+ RT on, DLSS3 frame generation = 1-40fps, stutters like crazy, unplayable basically

GFE performance overlay showing CPU utilization 1% :kookoo: GPU using around 345W on default settings, 280W on 0.95v undervolt.

Maybe just needs some thing newer than a 5-6 year old CPU.

@droopyRO It starts with a higher utilization but will slowly creep down from 95% to 72% to 50%.

I'm checking afterburner graphs after about 10mins of play.

@AsRock with no RT and just switching between APIs tells me it's the implementation or the API and not the hardware.
I've never had a better experience on DX12 on any game over a DX11 ver. I can't say I've ever really experienced an enjoyable DX12 game, they've all an issue of some type. I've had much better luck with Vulkan.

I think i could play it at a capped 30 fps with a controller. Last time i wen thru this series of games was in 2016 when Blood and Wine came out. I think i had a GTX 970 back then and it got around 50 or so fps. with high settings in 1440p. But RT is killing it even on a 4080 at 4K:

Newer than a 12600K that is barely a year or so old ? ha ! :)
