Cougar Unveils Polar X2 Line of High-Wattage ATX 3.0 PSUs with 12VHPWR Connectors

Cougar today unveiled the Polar X2 line of high-wattage modular power supplies. The lineup includes two models based on output—1050 W and 1200 W. "Polar X2 has passed the strict four dynamic peak load tests in the ATX 3.0 specification, in which the instantaneous peak power consumption must withstand a dynamic of 100μs and reach 200% of the rated power," says the company on the ATX 3.0 readiness of these PSUs.

Under the hood, the Polar X2 features a single +12 V rail design with 80 Plus Platinum efficiency, LLC+ DC to DC and switching, along with most common electrical protections. The PSU uses a 135 mm hydro-dynamic bearing fan that's tuned to remain fanless up to 40% load. Both models offer the same set of modular cables, with connectors that include a 24-pin ATX, two 8-pin EPS, one 12+4 pin ATX 12VHPWR connector capable of 600 W continuous output and excursions within ATX 3.0 + PCIe Gen 5 specs; seven 6+2 pin PCIe power, twelve SATA power, and four 4-pin Molex connectors. The company didn't reveal pricing.

I have contacted Cougar for warranty service and RMA multiple times in the past and got nothing, no response. I would stay far away from this company.

Well, with the way CPU's & GPU's are going nowadays, even a 1200w PSU will soon be considered as lower-mid range units

So why no 1600-3000w models ????

Yea yea I know not everyone builds/runs high-end rigs, but many folks here do (and I build lots of them for clients), so that's all I'm sayin

As for Cougar as a company, I had some of their fans years ago that seemed to work just fine, were quiet, pushed a good amount of air, and lasted for many years, but I haven't ever used anything else from them, nor have I had to use their RMA process, so I can't speak to that part....

Should be 7-8 years as minimum, but better if 10-12 years as standard, it is a platinum certified unit.

assuming they stick with the same OEM and not revert back to HEC, the original Polar was 10 years so I doubt they would change that

I am fine to exchange that "customer support" (which I never use, anyways), for lower pricing.
I guess this is a managerial decision for reducing expenses.
