According to Dean Takahashi from San Jose Mercury News, Microsoft plans to outfit the Xbox 360 console with a new motherboard code-named Jasper. Jasper is the successor to the board dubbed Falcon, which is inside Xbox 360s currently hitting the market. Jasper will have a new version of the ATI Technologies graphics chip based on a 65nm manufacturing process. Currently, the graphics chip of the Xbox 360 uses a 90-nanometer process. With the new version, the graphics chip will dissipate less heat, be physically smaller, and cost less to produce. The new Jasper board will also have smaller memory chips. Microsoft declined to comment on the story.
