ASUS and Noctua to Unveil GeForce RTX 40-series Graphics Card

ASUS and Noctua have had great success with their limited edition GeForce RTX 30-series graphics cards in the past. The collaboration saw ASUS-marketed graphics cards that combine an ASUS-designed PCB with a cooling solution designed and supplied by Noctua, combining their best VGA heatsink technology with a pair of their high static-pressure FDB fans. The ASUS x Noctua RTX 3080 (pictured below) remains among the best RTX 3080 cards we ever got a chance to test. It turns out that ASUS and Noctua will continue their collaboration with the new RTX 40-series "Ada" generation. ChipHell reports that ASUS will show off its next ASUS x Noctua graphics card(s) at the 2023 International CES. The report doesn't specify which GPU they will use. CES could see the introduction of at least two more RTX 40-series SKUs, namely the RTX 4070 Ti, and the RTX 4070, so it could be anything. Given that ASUS has given the Noctua treatment to the RTX 3080, it's quite possible that the RTX 4080 could get it too, at some point.

I'd love to see more GPU's just take 1 or 2 standard 120mm fans, hec even 120x15 so they're thinner but already standard holes to mount anything you want. The only real drawback at all seems to be physical size, maybe some added cost.

My 3080 Deshrouded and fed by 2xArctic P12 is insanely cool and quiet vs the stock TUF fans, and the card was praised in stock form, the results with these Noctua's or T30's would be epic, and if they came with stndard mounting the door opens to any fans you choose. Hell even 3x standard 92mm fans so we get more options would be welcome.

Yep, Asus seems to be the worst coil whine offender this 4000 series. It's going to make or break the Noctua cards.

And coil whine is harder to fix than fan noise. A deshroud of another model is "always" possible, fixing coil whine is not.

Out of curiosity, have you got any pictures of it? How are you powering the fans? I've been thinking of doing something similar to my 3080 TUF, but not really sure about the specifics.

It is beautiful to some others. I myself don't get a darn apple about how a graphics card look. I want a nicely cooled and performed card.

The only caveat here is that, like pretty much always, these seem CUSTOM fans. This means you still have to resort to the manufacturer should one or both fans encounter problems later in the card's "life", which would not happen if the fans were standard, as you could them simply swap them for whatever fan you fancied at that time.

Why don't manufacturers realize that using STANDARD fans is actually A GOOD THING?

I mean, they could use slim fans but leave space in the card's shroud (have it NOT cover the fans) so that you could swap the slim fans for regular height (or even thicker) fans should you so desire, thus improving on the card's performance via better cooling but @ the cost of the card "becoming thicker" and / or having different noise levels.

There's no excuse for these cards to be 4 slots in size. They are just taking a 2.5-slot heatsink that was designed to have 12mm fans on it, and slapping two nf-a12x25 on it. With a better heatsink design they could easily get this down to max 3 slots or even 2.5. I could do the same setup with the scythe setsugen 2 + nf-p12, twelve years ago; it was only 2.5 slots in height (single fan, but it only had to cool max. ~220W cards).

The only ugly thing about this card is it's price. Asus-Noctua 3070 and 3080 were already much more expensive than standard versions, so don't expect this one to be different.

Although it seems it is not the general opinion, I for one am loving the look!
I wish to see this on RX7900`s version as well as I doubt Nvidia needs it as much with this new architecture.

The main reason they don't do this is the performance hit. If you don't cover the sides of the fan you attach then you won't get the air flowing where it's supposed to go to and result in worse temps. As such they can't support all kinds of fans out of the box (or most likely they don't care to).
