Monoprice Unveils 40-inch Gaming Monitor at CES

Monoprice, the best value in consumer electronics, is unveiling a variety of exciting new products from several different categories at CES 2023. New products on display include several PC accessories, 8K AV products, outdoor gear, healthcare products, and more. "Monoprice is the low-price leader in high-quality consumer electronics, and this year we aim to expand that position to cover a variety of new B2B and B2C categories," said Bernard Luthi, CEO at Monoprice. "Our showcase at CES is just a tiny preview of what's to come in 2023, with many new and exciting product lines being introduced and tons of new products being added to our most popular product lines."

Monoprice reaffirms its top spot in the PC accessories space with the unveiling of a new CrystalPro 40-inch Ultrawide USB-C monitor. With a 3440x1440 pixel IPS panel, HDR 600, and 144 Hz refresh rate, this new monitor boasts outstanding visuals, while its height-adjustable stand with tilt and swivel adjustments ensures maximum viewing comfort. The new Crystal Pro 40-inch ultrawide monitor will be released in Q1 2023.

Wish it had a slight curve but pretty sweet monitor all around. Expecting good prices too from Monoprice.

I would encourage everyone to take a look at Monoprice. I had always thought they were like Insignia or something, just another cheap brand selling mediocre at best products. Then I actually gave them a shot, one of their monitors in particular. The Monoprice Dark Matter 27" 1440p 180hz (165hz w/ Gsync/FreeSync) IGZO-IPS monitor. It is a nice looking monitor with a more minimalist design, clean logo, aluminum stand. It has a whopping 3x HDMI ports, 1x DisplayPort, 1x Speaker Output, and 1x USB C with power and display over USB. That last one is unheard of at this price point. While not carrying the Gsync/FreeSync branding or certifications it supports them both via VESA Adaptive Sync over DisplayPort. I use Gsync daily with an RTX 3080 12gb. FreeSync also works over the HDMI ports, I tested it with my Xbox Series X. Some other notable features are Picture-in-Picture via the multiple inputs, MPRT setting, and Auto-HDR. The monitor does have a 10bit panel and supports HDR albeit only at around 400nits and with no local dimming which is to be expected at this price point. At the time, it was hands down the best value spec-for-spec and that says a lot being the market is absolutely flooded with 27" 1440p monitors. While having an MSRP of $350 it is on sale more often than not for as low as $200 ($230 when I bought it). Unlike many other 27" 1440p high refresh rate monitors this one actually has the pixel response times to back it up. I have NEVER been satisfied when viewing the UFO test until I did so on this monitor, zero motion blur/ghosting! I think the IGZO backplane is helping out with that. One thing I learned the hard way is VA panels suck for gaming. They bait you in with their higher contrast ratios but their pixel response times are too slow resulting in a lot of motion blur/ghosting. Even top-dollar VA panels will exhibit some. VA panels make great TVs and are great for watching movies but they suck for monitors! I guess it won't matter soon because OLED is becoming more affordable every day.
