DeepCool brought a wealth of new PC cooling and casing solutions to the 2023 International CES, and one of the new stuff that caught our eye is their new Assassin IV CPU cooler. When installed, this looks like big dark cube inside your case, with a shroud covering all its sheet-metal. A large aluminium fin-stack heatsink is concealed inside the shroud, to which heat is fed by seven 6 mm-thick heatpipes. A combination of 140 mm and 120 mm fluid-dynamic bearing fans ventilate the heatsink. The cooler is capable of handling thermal loads of up to 280 W, and can match up to 240 mm AIO coolers, so you can even run the top Zen 4 or Rocket Lake processors. In more ways than one, the Assassin IV tries to match the aesthetic of NVIDIA's Founders Edition cards as shown in the example build below.

The 16-pin adapter adds at least 4 cm to the card's height (minimum bend limit). Even a native 16-pin connector adds 2-3 cm. So you lose your side-panel but not because of this cooler.

I thought it was only about 160mm as it looks identical to the AK620... Then I looked properly and said out loud "No, it's massive".

I'm sure a large part of its increased height off the motherboard is due to its compatibility with full height RGB RAM

While it is good to have companies still committed to delivering high end air cooling solution, I feel the size of the cooler is starting to become a problem. The only reasonable sized dual tower cooler was the Scythe Fuma 2. Moving to BeQuiet Darkrock 4 Pro, the size of the cooler basically blocks everything around it. So if you want to connect fan header near the socket, you can't do it easily. Change ram, nope, gotta remove the cooler. Remove GPU, nope, gotta remove the cooler because the lever to release the GPU is blocked by the massive cooler (especially if the PCI-E x16 slot is the first slot below the CPU socket. So after some time, I decided to give AIO cooler a try and rarely looked back. Whenever I looked back and remembered the inconvenience, I always can the idea.

Terrible, terrible pun.
Reading the title inside my head I'm thinking "whoever came up with that pun sould be shot, cremated, mixed the ashes with salt and thrown into an active volcano" but since it's not politically correct I'm not going to say it :p
And seeing the cooler what comes to mind is this sketch from Gabriel Iglesias. Enjoy!

I don't think anything changed there, big coolers always block stuff nothing new there. For what it's worth I have a Noctua NH-D15 with a gpu on the first slot and can do most things without removing the cooler: I use a screwdriver to reach the PCIe latch, ram is unblocked (I use the cooler with just 1 fan) and I even replaced the SSD in the first m.2 slot that's convered by the cooler without removing it.

The cramped case gives me more problems than the cooler does (Fractal Meshify) - yes, smaller cooler would help, but so would a bigger case :D

Curious that they decided to showcase it with what I think is a 4090? Did they design around these honkers? If so, wonder how that cooler design works with the FE edition and its airflow path, channeling (it’s basically a shroud) the GPU’s VRM and some of the CPU heat at the GPU’s core. Curious to see it tested.

Also, @btarunr, all dual-tower air-coolers compete with 240 AIOs? Seems like an odd editorial decision.
