Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE) at the 2023 International CES set up a small but popular booth, drawing crowds to go hands-on with the new DualSense Edge wireless controllers for the PlayStation 5, and the PlayStation VR2 virtual-reality system, besides a few more interesting bits of gaming gear. The new DualSense Edge goes on sale from January 26, and is a feature-packed new wireless controller that offers advanced new-generation haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, the ability to fine-tune stick sensitivity, user-replaceable stick caps and back button, and button-remapping. The premium controller is expected to be priced at USD $200.

The PlayStation VR2 headset launches in February 2023, and works exclusively with the PlayStation 5, for a new selection of VR2-optimized games. The VR2 packs much faster hardware than the original PSVR from 2016, a higher resolution display with a native resolution of 4000 x 2040 pixels, HDR, a 110° FOV, and refresh-rate of at least 90 Hz, that can be pushed up to 120 Hz in certain high-motion scenarios. The VR2 headset features "inside-out" tracking of the user with cameras embedded in the headset determining your body movements, augmenting the inertial sensors. The headset also features eye-tracking, advanced haptic feedback, and improved 3D spatial audio. We also got to see new gray camouflage body scheme for the PlayStation 5, its stock DualSense wireless controller, and Pulse 3D headset, and "God of War: Ragnarok" themed DualSense wireless controllers.

fine tuning of the stick sensitivity? Can't you already change that in most games? Did this mean resistance instead of sensitivity? because that would be way cooler.

Yes, but this allows to create global settings on the controller and presets you can quickly change. This new controller also allows to set and callibrate the deadzones on the sticks (shouldn't really be something new, it's a basic software feature the console should have) and the sticks are supposed to be easy to replace (also something that should not be a feature).

It's crazy expensive, but it's priced at the same level as the Xbox Elite controller (the full version it compares with) :nutkick:

Both are terrible value but I think the dualsense can justify the price tag better than the xbox controller with the much better haptics. As bad as the price is it's a closed ecosystem, if you like to play either console (and don't want to wait on the remote hope the exclusives come to pc eventually) and are tired of the limitations of the basic controller you don't have many choices.

I fully know the price is horrific but as soon as there's a black version (or a "not white" version at least) i'm buying one. The deadzone callibration alone almost sells it for me (as painfully aware as I am they could give the option to callibrate the regular controllers very easily)

Not mentioned in the article, but Sony also unveiled a new accessibility controller to rival a similar solution from Microsoft

It's no more or less dumb than 200 buck keyboards or hundred buck mice that fly all the time in the PC gaming space.

FWIW the PS ecosystem is pretty good. And these roided up controllers do deliver on what they claim.

It's priced 200 because it has the damn paddles on the bottom. Thank Corsair for that.

Were they the first to use paddles or something? Cause I know they weren't.

They hold the patents for it (under the brand SCUF). Both Sony and Microsoft pay to use them, Valve had to pay after loosing in court for the Steam Controller
