Cooler Master Hyper 212 Halo Series Brings the Iconic 212 up to 2023 Standards

The Cooler Master Hyper 212 series over the years has become synonymous with aftermarket CPU cooling, as possibly the most popular custom CPU cooler. The company modernized it over the years with new heatsink and fan technologies, and it's has undergone a major design- and tech overhaul with the new Hyper 212 Halo. It retains the conventional aluminium fin-stack (type-U) design, with four 6 mm-thick copper heatpipes making direct contact with the CPU at the base, conveying heat to an aluminium fin-stack heatsink that's been capped off with a die-cast aluminium top-plate. The included 120 mm Halo fan features rifle-bearings rated for over 160,000 hours, and features two sets of addressable-RGB LEDs—along the bore of the fan-frame, and the impeller hub. The fan turns at speeds ranging between 650 to 2,050 RPM, pushing up to 51.88 CFM of airflow at 2.89 mm H₂O static-pressure, and 27 dBA maximum noise output. As part of its design modernization, the Hyper 212 Halo gets support for the latest Sockets LGA1700 and AM5.

3 new Hyper 212(Halo in 2 colourways and Spectrum) are already listed on CM website so release wont be too far away.

Edit: It seems like CM has updated heatsink and reduced height to 152mm compared to ~160mm on older designs.

About time Cooler Master got serious. Hyper212 has been dead for a while. There is a Hyper212 black but it costs 50 percent more than the Deepcool.

Did you try asking Cooler Master for a AM4 bracket? Which 212 have you got? When did you purchase it?

Cooler Master are never going to let the 212 die. It's got to be one of the most popular air coolers ever. If the update improves performance, more power to them. Looks nice at least.

There are 2 AM4 upgrade kits for Hyper212 and others and they way both those kits install pretty sure they will even work on AM5 boards. Check CM parts store for these kits(they were available for free(shipping to be paid by user or available with local shops for free) at AM4 launch now they might be available for small fee).

What set the hyper 212 apart was that it was cheap for it's mediocre performance. They're trying to make it a more premium product with a higher price with each iteration but if the performance is still mediocre compared to it's peers the product stops making sense (which happened a couple iterations ago)

I'm seeing the hyper 212 evo at 45$ on amazon, the noctua u12redux is also 45$, to me the choice is obvious

The 212 is just another in the long line of cheap and cheerful products that have achieved brand-name recognition to the point that the manufacturer gets greedy and tries to push up the price, "justifying" it by adding unnecessary and unwanted features that are exactly the opposite of why the product succeeded in the first place. Thus the product dies and the manufacturer blithely asks "what went wrong?", because they're incapable of perceiving that the ultimate problem is their own greed.

I did not seek out new mounting hardware when I had alternatives. I bought my 212 almost 10 years ago maybe?

Maybe someday if I need a spare cooler again. I wish I could get new mounting hardware for my old promiltech megahelem but they explicitly said they won't offer new mounting hardware.

cheap to make and has great model recognition, you still see web sites use in their "PC builds"

It went downhill the minute CM cut cost on the 212 evo by removing the old base plate and stating the "direct contact pipes" were a "feature"

agreed 100%, last time i had to install a 212 it was a absolute PITA compared to the bequiet darkrock pro 4 (or whatever its called, cant remember off the top of my head) that i used for a friends build.

Cheap and delivered better than stock but not better than expensive performers. Good all rounder. Worked with 2 myself before I went to Noctuas and haven't gone back. One thing I noticed with the 212s, while you can use them across a variety of platforms for a long time, their performance seems to diminish with time. Don't know if it's something to do with age on the metal or the grade of it being lower quality. Just noticed more cooling issues with time even after I'd clean it. Never had the same with Noctuas.

I have the original Hyper 212 in my machine, I bought it in 2013 and the machine is on 16+ hours a day. The fan is still good, no noise or rattling or anything noticeable (it's on a 2500K@4.4 GHz). So the fan seems reliable. I wonder if that would be the case with the newer versions.

Glad the 212 still continues to live on after so many years. I've used so many over the years I can't even count how many. For budget builds they were always the go to as you can normally catch them around $25
