Minisforum introduced a new variant called HX99G in its Neptune portfolio today. It is an upgraded version of the first member, the HX90G (5900HX processor + RX6600M GPU), which was announced in May 2022 before going up for sale in September 2022. The Neptune HX99G looks practically identical to the HX90G. Measuring 205 x 203 x 69 mm (8.1" x 8" x 2.7"), both models feature 45 watts, 8-cores/16-threads graphics and the same laptop-class discrete GPU. However, it updates the Ryzen 9 5900HX with a faster Ryzen 9 6900HX and replaces the two DP ports with two speedier USB4 ports.

R9 6900HX integrates all eight cores based on the Zen 3+ microarchitecture. It's clocked at 3.3 (guaranteed base clock) to 4.9 GHz (max boost). Ryzen 6000 brings a slew of technological advancements, like support for USB 4, PCI-E Gen 4, DDR5-4800MT/s, WIFI 6 and Bluetooth 5.2. The other AMD performance component is the RDNA 2 graphics architecture Radeon RX 6600M (GDDR6 8 GB) with a TDP of up to 100 watts. Users can expect to utilize the full performance of this dedicated GPU to handle professional-class photo and video editing as well as content creation. Also, this GPU packs enough firepower to hit 60 frames per second at 1080p (depending on the specific game and settings).

HX99G adopts the same cooling solution as the HX90G. It has 7- heat-pipes (3 for CPU and 4 for GPU) and dual fans inside. The computers use liquid metal on the CPU and GPU and have cases that incorporate carbon fiber. The excellent heat dissipation design enables the HX99G to maintain relatively low noise even under full load.

As for the storage, users can build their own RAM up to 64 GB. Besides the default M.2 2280 PCIe 4.0 SSD (up to 2 TB) slot, an extra M.2 2280 SSD slot (Support NGFF SATA or NVMe PCIe 4.0 SSD) is also provided for expansion.

HX99G supports quad display: two 4K/60 Hz displays through HDMI 2.0 and two 8K/60 Hz displays through USB 4. Other ports include:
  • Power Button
  • USB 3.2 Gen1 Type-C Port
  • Microphone Jack
  • Headphone Jack
  • USB 3.1 Gen1 Type-A Port
  • RJ45 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet Port
  • USB 3.2 Gen2 Type-A Port x 3
  • Power Supply
The price for barebone (No RAM, No SSD and No OS) starts at USD$839. Minisforum offers up to 64 GB RAM and 1 TB SSD configuration options.

The 6900HX model with no GPU is only $500. Would be nice if they make a Ryzen 7940HS model as soon as possible ;)

no thunderbolt?

Not many gets AMD based motherboards authorized by Intel's Thunderbolt division.

No it's not impossible you just have to meet the space of Thunderbolt 3 or 4 depending on what you choose but I guess with USB4 for the AMD Ryzen 7000 series CPU's it won't be a problem since USB4 can do Thunderbolt 3 native but you have to read up on that per device if it will work.

Personally I would love to have this system with Minisforum would send one over to me because I do not have the money to pay it because I would use it for my Plex server and daily machine.

They need to be faster with their release cadence.

I know it might be an issue with chip availability, but releasing this now when AMD are close to releasing Ryzen 7000 and Radeon 7000 mobile will make people hesitant to buy it.

I don't think so because the Ryzen 5000 and 6000 series brings better value than the Ryzen 7000 series so if you think about money then it's not hard for the performance for the power budget you get with the 5000 and 6000 parts.

Yeah, I am SOOOO excited to see the new Ryzen mobile APUs with 12 RDNA3 CUs in a miniPC. While the CU count is identical to the RDNA2 680M iGPU, the upgrade to RDNA3 should offer a substantial performance uplift, especially when paired with 6000Mhz DDR5. I'm thinking it should hit 60fps @1080p across the board which will be awesome to see.

If one of these things came with more decent networking (1GbE + 10GbE), it would probably be my next main PC. This and cool them with a proper exchangeable 120mm fan for low noise.

Yeah, I've been saying this for a while, internal gpu with RDNA3 12CU+DDR5 would finally be able to perform as good as the venerable Polaris cards. And that's fast enough that a discrete GPU wouldn't be required.

That's my dream....a competent APU that can game in a SFF build. My fantasy is of an APU with 8 Zen3/4 CPU cores, at least 24 RDNA3 CUs (though it'd be awesome if there were 36-48 CUs to rival the PS5/XBoxSX), and MOST importantly, at least 4GB of on package HBM2e/3 (though 8GB would be amazing since it would greatly reduce the instances in which system DDR5 would have to be used as VRAM)....the SFF builds would be legendary, but I realize the market for such an item is small, as the vast majority of people would rather retain the ability to upgrade CPU and GPU separately. Basically, I want the PS5/XBox APU but with integrated HBM for the VRAM so that system memory can still be upgraded by user (instead of soldered GDDR5 like with the consoles).....maybe one day.

Now THIS is more of what I want to see out of the mini PC space. Especially since AIBs and AMD/nvidia have refused to provide us new 75w LP cards, mini PCs with mobile GPUs will likely be the way forward.

Hopefully we can see some of these with 6850mxts or 7900m xtxs soon.

Sadly ETAPrime doesn't produce any quality content. He just shows you the free stuff he has. I gave up on his channel a long time ago. He can't be bothered to do a single comparison chart.

As people even say in his comment section, he is "absurdly positive" about everything. Give him something for free, he'll hawk it for sale.

Still excited for the Ryzen mobile APUs in a mini PC though. Would be great!
