SilverStone introduced the RM51, a 5U rackmount case meant for servers and workstations, which can be tilted along its side to be used as a tower-type case. It supports motherboard form-factors that include SSI-EEB, SSI-CEB, E-ATX, and smaller. There are two PSU bays on offer, the main one being a conventional ATX/PS2; while a second SFX PSU can be deployed by replacing a 3.5-inch bracket. Internal drive bays include four 2.5-inch, and up to four 3.5-inch. You get room for a graphics card up to 455 mm in length, and depending on whether you use the expansion slot retainer, either 157 mm or 198 mm of height. The same goes to CPU coolers—181 mm with it, and 192 mm without.

The cooling setup of the SilverStone RM51 includes a mesh-type front intake that can hold either three 120 mm fans, or two 180 mm fans. Two 180 mm Air Penetrator 184i PRO are included with the case. The rear fan-cage holds two 80 mm, and there's another 140 mm vent at the rear I/O. You can mount up to a 360 mm radiator along the front intake, and a 120 mm radiator along the rear exhaust. Including the rear fan-cage, the case measures 440 mm (W) x 220 mm (H) x 485 mm (D). The case should be available in Asia and North America from the second half of February, priced at USD $489.99, with European availability expected in March.

For 5U i can have 2x2U dual CPU servers with gobs of ram and storage - and a 1U switch. Unless you have your stuff on premise or just have a cage with space to burn that's pretty thick.

Fantastic looking rackmount case by SilverStone. Not to often you see water cooling support in case of this type. Looks like good ventilation as well in general. The front probably looks nice illuminated as well.

looks nice but it's overpriced for a almost barebones metal case(a high end PC case has much more patterning and metal/glass/plastic pieces and assembly yet costs half as much), the "penetrator" of the fans is for your wallet not for the airflow...

Yea this. Other than a fancier looking front cover, it looks like any other cheap rack-ish case.

It is expensive mainly due to its much lower production volume compared to normal PC cases. You can't tell from the photos, but it also uses thicker, higher quality metal than cheap rackmount cases.

Will there be a version that can hold more than 2 HDDs? Like maybe 24?

Clean!

I was looking this over! I would keep the water cooling all the way. I would take advantage of the front fans already in place. Alphacool NexXxoS Monsta 180mm Dual radiator 85mm thick. I'm not sure if the space exists, but I could get another set of those 180 fans in a push-pull setup! This is something worth considering!!!

If you are not using the internal SFX PSU bracket, then you can fit another two 3.5" HDDs for a total of four 3.5" HDDs.

There are no plans to make another version of RM51 at the moment. But it's probably impossible to make a case like this with 24 drives crammed into it unless we make it much deeper or sacrifice its cooling capability?

How much space is between the front fan mounting and the motherboard mounting plate? Trying to see just what size radiator I can get in this location.
Price?

Thank You

Depending on the width of the motherboard you have, you will have different amount of space to work with for your radiator and fan combo at the front of the case. If you have the largest motherboard that the RM51 can fit, which is the SSI-EEB form factor, then you will have about 125mm of thickness space for radiator and fans. Below is a summary of the available radiator/fan thickness space for all motherboard form factors:

125mm - SSI-EEB (12" x 13")
188mm - SSI-CEB (12" x 10.5", this form factor is often mis-labeled as E-ATX by many companies so definitely check the actual dimensions)
211mm - ATX & Micro-ATX (12" x 9.6" & 9.6" x 9.6")
284mm - Mini-ITX (6.7" x 6.7")

Thank you so much for this information. I have the Asus WRX 80 Pro for the Threadripper Pro. The motherboard is 12.2" x 13".
In this setup, your Air Penetrator Fans are 32mm wide.

32 (Fan) + 85 (Radiator) + 32 (Fan) = 149mm wide. This will not fit in that location, and I can't find a fan right now that will work in this situation.

Do you offer any radiators? If not, I will have to find some radiator and fan combinations that can support multiple GPU.

What is the US price for this unit?

Alphacool XT is 45mm, but I’m sure you knew about those already, and that may not be enough for multiple GPUs  You could always just forego the pull fans :(

Thank you, I did think about that for sure. The Xt is 45mm thick and allows you to keep the fans. At most, I would be able to work with one CPU, and no more than 2 GPUs tops.
Something that can offer some real radiation is to remove the 180 fans and vertically stacked dual Corsair XR7 360 radiators. And now insert 120 fans in a push-pull, and this can really turn this into a small cooler. The equivalent EK radiator is 130 in height, and the Corsair is 120 in height.

The included Air Penetrator 184i Pro fans are pretty powerful so maybe you'll be OK running with just a pair of fans in a push configuration with the radiator? We only offer AIOs for sale (e.g. IceGem 360) so no separate radiator available.

Our MSRP for the RM51 is $489.99.

As mentioned in the original post above, the expected availability in North America is second half of February so that means we can see this up for sale as early as Feb. 15.

My apologies - thank you!
I will keep a lookout.

Last question - Is there a deeper version of this case coming forth? Is this unit deeper than 485mm?
