I doubt it, I think most people upgrades for the extra cores

I know a guy that upgraded from 4/4 to 4/8 to 6/6 to 8/16 in like 5 years.

Almost same single core performance and IPC but overall performance boost were still huge

For me, 8 performance cores plus smt/ht is the sweet spot and will be good for years for gaming.
