Intel X48 Chipset May Hurt X38 Sales

Intel recently launched its high-end 3 series chipset X38 in the market, however with details of a chip revision, the X48 chipset, exposed, some motherboard makers are concerned that the X48 may hurt demand for motherboards based on the X38 chipset. Intel recently delivered X48 A0 test samples to motherboard makers. The chipset is expected to launch between the end of 2007 and January 2008 after testing, while motherboards should start appear on the market in the first quarter of 2008. With the X48's launch expected to come only three months later than X38, it could lead to a short life cycle for the X38, causing a delay in market demand.

Since x38 is no better then P35 except for additional bells and whistles, thus it should be sold for a lot less then x48 boards. And p35 boards should go down in price and sold cheaper then x38 boards.

This will give the buyers 3 different products in different price range, just like we have VGA cars now days.

But i personally think, P35 boards will die off quickly once the X48 boards hit the shelfs at all the local stores.

i dont think p35 will die off,it all depends on the prices for x48.if it does hurt sales of x38,that will leave users a choice between p35 and x48 if x38 dies off.

i thought i read somewhere that the x48 is the same as the x38 but it has better overclocking capabilities like the super clocked gtxs being the same as the reg gtx but took the overclocking better

to me it seems like a rush to the mobo market with a flood of different chipsets. I want to almost say the new RD790X might be a part, maybe small maybe large, but a part of the reason.

p35 will live untill the x38/x48 will go down to reasonable prices. the only real advantage of x38 was x16/x16 and like 1-3 extra 3d marks, not worth the price premium for someone who doesn't want to do x-fire.

Intel have always done this, I don't know why motherboard mans are getting worried about it now. Intel bring out a new chipset every couple of months it seems. It is good for us guys though coz it brings the prices of the last gen down a lot quicker...
