ASUS EeePC Coming to Newegg and Best Buy First, Will Cost $199USD

Ultra-Mobile Personal Computers, or UMPCs for short, are in no way, shape, or form new to the technology world. However, for the high entry price of $1000, most people avoid them. The ASUS EeePC aims to change that. With a starting price of $199USD, ASUS may have struck gold, finding a new niche in the market that will be exclusively theirs for at least the next few months. The EeePCs hardware specifications are listed below, for the $199USD model.

7" LCD display (800x480)
10/100 Ethernet card, 56K modem, and WiFi access
256MB of DDR2 RAM (upgradeable to 1GB)
2-8GB of SSD storage
4400mAh battery good for 2.8 hours of battery life
Linux as an operating system, though the EeePC is compatible with Windows XP

Probably not (they probably left it off to cut costs), but what would you need to use via pcmcia that you couldn't get a USB version of?

Only a 933MHz Celeron M though...

I hope this is compatible with the ULV Core 2 Duos.

yeah, not the best cpu, but hell, for 200 bucks, its actually pretty damn great. 16 GB of SSD storage, hoozah thats hella fast.

It looks like it uses the Intel 910GMLE chipset.... which is only a 400FSB and only support Celeron up to 1.5

Ah, so they are using the older 90nm Dothan based Celeron Ms. That sucks, I was really hoping for something that supported speedstep.

It only says a maximum of 8GB of storage space

But yeah for the price you cant go wrong cant wait to see this in Best Buy so I can try it out :toast:

Wouldnt it be possible to turn the Dothan CPUs into 65 nm FOR THIS umpc I mean it would bring down the costs and such :pimp:

one thing is a sprint evdo card, other thing i have is a portable cdrom drive, which doesn't need external power source.
