Supplice has just been released in Early Access - today you get a chance to get your hands on the game, which has evolved tremendously over the years. Supplice is the best example of what an engaged and hard-working community can do. As you probably know, this project started as a Total Conversion mod for DOOM and evolved into one of the most anticipated RetroFPS stand-alone games. We want to thank everyone who shared their feedback with us on our social media channels, but most importantly, we would like to give a massive shout-out to the Doomworld.com and Zdoom.org communities! You guys rock!

As you know, Supplice has started as an ambitious Doom megawad and evolved into the idea of a stand-alone game that would not only be a total conversion mod, but would firmly stand on its own feet. At its core, Supplice is the fruit of the passionate Doom modding community, and as such it has community-driven development written in its DNA. The initial vision and formula have been re-imagined and revisited as the concept, its aesthetics, and the GZDoom tech itself evolved over the years.

As Supplice goes into Early Access, therefore to celebrate the launch, there will be a 15% discount. To quench your interest, here is what you can expect in the future as well as some additional information about the present in the form of a Q&A.

Why Early Access in the first place?
A part of the content has already been polished to a brilliant shine and will be available for you tomorrow, ready for your visual and auditory enjoyment. During the upcoming months, additional content will be perfected and delivered to you. By adopting this approach, the Mekworx team will have the opportunity to deliver each level at the highest quality possible, not to mention the creative freedom and space.

How long will this game be in Early Access?
Approximately for a year's time. For the time being, the full release date is set to Q2 2024.

What can we expect during Early Access?
The initial Early Access release consists of the first episode. A full new episode will be launched every 2-3 months, leading to the release of the final episode and the full launch of the game.

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?
The full game's planned scope is 6 episodes, 5 maps each with some additional secret bonus levels which number won't be disclosed. The Early Access version is already feature-complete in terms of game's mechanics, but the ways in which the game delivers its story is limited and will be expanded in full release. During the development, the price of the game will also rise from $14.99 for Early Access (but will never go beyond $20).

What is the current state of the Early Access version?
As mentioned previously, the initial Early Access release includes the entire 1st episode of the game, which translates to 5 quite extensive maps and one boss fight. Not all weapons available in the game are utilized in those 5 initial maps, and the selection of foes is limited. True to its Doom-modding roots, Supplice offers user-generated content support from day-1 of Early Access, and there are some Supplice fan-made maps already available.

Can we be a part of the development process?
Following the initial EA release, each next episode will be first released to a limited number of the most active Supplice Discord users, so if you wish to provide feedback, go over to the Discord channel and keep an eye out for invitations. We hope that this answers all of your questions and should you still have some inquiries, then feel free to post them in the comment section. Now, to something definitely more fun!

What else is there to say? We hope you enjoy playing the first episode of Supplice. Remember to share your feedback with us. And we're heavily gonna appreciate it if you give us a review on Steam. It helps us get along with an algorithm and the Steam visibility (gotta promote them Retro FPSes), and it also lets us know what we did well and what needs improvement.

The Supplice Early Access version is available now on Steam.

What will happen during Supplice's Early Access? A full new episode will be launched every 2-3 months, leading to the release of the final episode and the full launch of the game.

Not to judge the game itself, but this whole retro shooter genre is starting to get just a little over-saturated.

The only issue I have with this is that most of these games can be 100% accurately described by the words "retro shooter". I mean, there's nothing more to them, nothing that would make them stand out.

This, and I think its because (like with the Amnesia clones) devs think this is easy.

But really what I would want is a game with this look, full pathtracing and voxel models (like that doom patch) and then obviously a decent story and some interesting gameplay elements that just could not be done at the time of doom, like some advanced physics.

Basically the same effort that would go into a tripple A title, just spend elsewhere.

A game that is easy to make is hard to sell, I guess. The question it has to answer, and sometimes struggles is "why would I want to play this instead of the one next to it?".

A small team of developers making their own passion a reality is admirable, but doesn't always translate into a profitable enterprise.

Things which look normal are now "retro". Get off my lawn, ya lousy kids!
I'm not really a shooter enthusiast but this new wave of "retro" ones lacks what's actually important, in my humble opinion. They look blocky and pixelated but what made me love Unreal Tournament or Quake 3 Arena was the simplicity. Run the game, set up a match in a few seconds and get to fragging. No microtransactions, achievements, myriad of modes and other distracting bullshit characteristic for games made for kids these days.

True that. I'm more a single player campaign person, i think with today's drive capacities, if you're going to make a game look retro, make the maps huge, you got the space

Then don't get it. I'm all for retro shooters. Being 46 years old, the more the merrier

Looks like EA is trying to cash in on Prodeus which is a pretty fun retro shooter.

How can you say this? The protagonist is woman...and black! Don't you see?
