CD Projekt Red has now officially released the long-awaited patch for Cyberpunk 2077, bringing RT: Overdrive mode with Path Tracing technology preview, and other improvements. The new patch adds a Ray Tracing Overdrive and Path Tracing presets, which have to be manually enabled. Of course, the Ray Tracing: Overdrive Mode is only supported on the NVIDIA RTX 40 series graphics cards, and it will work on the RTX 3090 graphics card, although it is only limited to 1080p resolution.

The new patch also adds an option to enable Path Tracing for Photo Mode, and adds support for NVIDIA DLAA, which is NVIDIA's AI-based anti-aliasing mode meant to improve image quality. To not make it all about NVIDIA, CD Projekt Red also added support for Intel XeSS 1.1, and some minor benchmark improvements. Unfortunately, and surprisingly, the new patch does not bring any expected gameplay improvements, which will probably come at a later date in a separate patch.

Cyberpunk 2077 patch 1.62 changelog:

Path Tracing: Technology Preview
Added a Ray Tracing: Overdrive preset which includes the Path Tracing technology. You can enable the Ray Tracing: Overdrive preset in Settings > Graphics > Quick Preset, or just Path Tracing separately in Settings > Graphics in the Ray Tracing section.

Additionally, we included an option to render path-traced screenshots in Photo Mode for other Ray-Tracing-capable graphics cards with at least 8GB VRAM. If your graphics card has more than 8GB VRAM and this option is still greyed out, it means you need to lower your in-game resolution. Note that the higher the resolution and the less powerful the GPU is, the longer it will take to take a screenshot (between a few seconds to several minutes). You can enable Path Tracing for Photo Mode in Settings > Graphics in the Ray Tracing section.

DLAA
Added NVIDIA DLAA, an AI-based anti-aliasing mode designed to improve image quality. DLAA requires a NVIDIA RTX graphics card. It can be enabled in Settings > Graphics in the NVIDIA DLSS section.

Intel XeSS
Added support for Intel Xe Super Sampling 1.1, an upscaling technology using machine learning to provide improved performance with high image quality. It can be enabled in Settings > Graphics in the Resolution Scaling section.

Benchmark improvements
Improved the Benchmark to display more information in the results screen, including PC specs, GPU driver version and selected settings.

Exactly,

in 2 generation of GPU, mid range GPU should be able to run this at 1080P native at reasonable framerate. High end will do it at 4K. They are just futurproofing the game.

I just tested it a bit with my 4080 at 4K DLSS Performance + Frame Generation. There is a lot of artefact on screen. Not sure if that is really playable. It either lack of some denoising or something but still. It add to the atmosphere of the game but it's not that mind blowing. I think the assets quality of the game were not made for such realism in mind and feel odd a little bit.

Still very impressive and i hope all GPU vendors will soon be able to run this content smoothly.

It's just how CDPR is. Witcher 2 wasn't playable maxxed out until years after release either. And it didn't even use a particularly new DX version.
As for crippling... everybody knows AMDs hardware lags behind in RTRT, I really don't see what CDPR could do about that.

well, actually it's not that bad ... these tech are nothing much but gimmicks ... they aren't needed nor they cripple the concurrent (unless they are not toggle on toggle off options ... eheh)plus they even cripple their own hardware (and i mean Nvidia) with these tech  even a LQ 4090 has issues running that at any resolution above 1080p :D

CP2077 look pretty nice already on my RX 6700 XT and run quite nice too ...

my concern is rather : why make a patch for such "not really wanted" features rather than what they promised us to get ... eh?
It's just how CDPR is. Witcher 2 wasn't playable maxxed out until years after release either. And it didn't even use a particularly new DX version.
As for crippling... everybody knows AMDs hardware lags behind in RTRT, I really don't see what CDPR could do about that.
that's kinda true ... also TW3 had Nv Hairwork which added .... unglyness  but also crippled AMD a bit ;) (TR2016 had a similar feature with TressFX but that one looked nice and both Nvidia and AMD were affected similarly )

tbf RTRT on AMD, i ran the benchmark on CP2077 saw a nice performance impact indeed (although RT balanced @ 2880x1620p i was more surprised that it did not turn into a slideshow but was almost smooth albeit lower fps ) ... but i consider RTRT to be something minor even at the present day ... it brings nothing to the table and it even look worse in some games

and i am more impressed at AMD RTRT performances since they don't need a sizable chunk of their silicon for dedicated RTRT hardware... (seriously) Intel has specialized RTU so... same basket as Nvidia, unless these RTU works similarly as the Ray accelerator in AMD which aren't only tied to RT

overhyped game imo, always was. i canceled my preorder for it on a hunch. so glad I did. haha
nah, CDPR just promised too much (they had a "Raja moment" if i might say so   ) but the game is kinda fine ... got mine damn close to day 1 with a hefty birthday coupon which made it almost 75% cheaper ... would have i bought it full price? maybe ... (i never had any game breaking bugs even before early patches)

damn you need a 4090 just to hit 105 fps and that is with frame generation on.

fuck that. i'd rather have the smoothness of a steady 165 frames on a 165hz screen at the same rez

smoothness = increased immersion
60fps+ is already enough :p ok ok ... i add ... imho ;) (merely a joke ... although, personally, i see no difference from 120fps and above meanwhile 30 to 60 i can see one and 75 is the threshold where i start to see no major improvement ... but that's probably something wrong with my eyes ;) or brain ... maybe ... )

i agree on smoothness nonetheless ;)

Super impressive although I wouldn't recommend it at 4k unless someone has a 4090 I do like that there is a photo mode only so people with even Turing and Ampere cards can get some really cool screenshots. I think your 4080 at your resolution should work pretty well.

On a side note it is cool to actual see a game that brings my 4090 to it's knees to the point that I need every feature it offers to get a good experience thankfully frame generation is actually pretty good in this game. Looks pretty glorious on a 65 inch oled.

It's still super impressive my wife was watching me play it and she honestly doesn't care much about graphics and even she noticed the difference and thought it looked really cool..... She played through it without RT on a TItan Xp.

there are people out there who are tetrachromats and can see more colors and shades of color than you or I can see, so it is not impossible that there is some people that simply can't see high refresh in the same way as others.

I for one can tell a different between 100 fps and 165 fps on 165hz monitor, the different is night day, so smooth and immersive... and 60 fps is a blurry mess to me now.

I see this a lot but it kinda surprises me and while I agree going from 30-60 is more noticeable than 60-120 I have a hard time even gaming at 60. For me it's past 240hz that it's hard to notice a difference but that could just be the 360hz monitor I tried I also didn't have a ton of hands on with it.

I'd still rather game at 120hz on an oled than 240hz on an Ips though. Once there is some second generation Oled panels I plan on ditching my Ips/Va screens completely I hate using them after switching my primary panel to oled.

my sweespot is 60 since my hardware handle it @ 1620p   my screen accept 75hz OC but @ 1440p (and it's an IPS ... i can't really see me with an OLED sooner or later ... given my behaviour on PC i would end up with burn in faster than you can say "oh shi..."

actually Skyrim (with a shittons of graphic overhaul mods and ENB ) became smooth 60 recently with latest drivers from AMD which surprised me ... before 23.2.2 occasional dips under 45fps and sometime "freeze" at 16-23, after 23.2.2 no more (but it's kinda a bad example since Skyrim engine do not like above 60fps ;) )

I agree with all of this.

Yeah, I don't get the whole 60hz vs 120+ thing even just moving your mouse on the desktop feels so much better at higher refresh rates than 60....

my sweespot is 60 since my hardware handle it @ 1620p   my screen accept 75hz OC but @ 1440p (and it's an IPS ... i can't really see me with an OLED sooner or later ... given my behaviour on PC i would end up with burn in faster than you can say "oh shi..."

For sure and people who enjoy 60hz gaming there is nothing wrong with that. I can game at 60hz if using a controller just fine. The interesting thing is CP2077 around 100fps with framegen feels like a 60hz game even though it is perceptibly smoother so I have to use a controller to enjoy playing with it on.

Amazing game and this makes it even better!

I wouldn't say this makes it a better game but it is cool just to walk around the city with this new update.

That makes two of us then.
I've finished Cyberpunk with an average of 50 fps most of the time on a 75Hz monitor and I felt no discomfort at all, to me it was perfectly enjoyable. 'this goes for most games in my case'
It was a game where I actually wanted the eye candy turned up so I had RT lights/reflections on ultra with a mix of high/ultra settings + DLSS Quality on top. 'to me DLSS looks better in this game than native TAA, fixed some flickering and small details were better in the distance'
Personally what I can't go back to is 16:9 monitors, after using this entry level 21:9 since 2019 it just grew on me too much to the point of finding 16:9 ones weird to look at/use.
For me this aspect ratio gives more immersion than any high refresh could, if I ever upgrade my monitor it has to be the same aspect ratio but with a better/more modern panel. 'idk like better colors and whatnot, can have higher refresh as an extra but its not a must have either'

Played and finished the game in early 2023 and I only ran into minor bugs, nothing game breaking so to say + the game was stable too. 'bought the game 50% discounted so I can't complain either'

Maybe in a good few years and if I'm still playing games I will re visit this Overdrive and play it with some at the time mid range card.

O ye I do have really bad eyes, w/o glasses I can't even see the monitor properly so I have to wear it all the time.
About to get some new glasses in this month actually, starting to see worse with my current one..

I can't really see me with an OLED sooner or later ... given my behaviour on PC i would end up with burn in faster than you can say "oh shi..."

The burn-in stuff is super overblown.

Benchmark Scores bench...mark? i do leave mark on bench sometime, to remember which one is the most comfortable. :o

yeah ... "i never had a burn-in until i got a burn-in" ... i get it ...

well on phone it's not a big thing, unless using alway on screen, which is what happened to me twice, well still nothing on the GT2 for now ...

Sounds like an solid update. At least they haven't abandoned the game.
well ... as long as they give what they promised (outside tech upgrade) it's fine ... but that visual upgrade (and performances downgrade if not using DLSS ) should not have taken precedence on more solid substantial updates ... oh, well, maybe it did not take much workforce from the other updates

aside DLSS 3 it's even a so-so update for Nvidia cards owners, minor update for Intel cards owner and a pointless update for AMD cards owners

well, actually it's not that bad ... these tech are nothing much but gimmicks ... they aren't needed nor they cripple the concurrent (unless they are not toggle on toggle off options ... eheh)plus they even cripple their own hardware (and i mean Nvidia) with these tech  even a LQ 4090 has issues running that at any resolution above 1080p :D

CP2077 look pretty nice already on my RX 6700 XT and run quite nice too ...

my concern is rather : why make a patch for such "not really wanted" features rather than what they promised us to get ... eh?

that's kinda true ... also TW3 had Nv Hairwork which added .... unglyness  but also crippled AMD a bit ;) (TR2016 had a similar feature with TressFX but that one looked nice and both Nvidia and AMD were affected similarly )

tbf RTRT on AMD, i ran the benchmark on CP2077 saw a nice performance impact indeed (although RT balanced @ 2880x1620p i was more surprised that it did not turn into a slideshow but was almost smooth albeit lower fps ) ... but i consider RTRT to be something minor even at the present day ... it brings nothing to the table and it even look worse in some games

and i am more impressed at AMD RTRT performances since they don't need a sizable chunk of their silicon for dedicated RTRT hardware... (seriously) Intel has specialized RTU so... same basket as Nvidia, unless these RTU works similarly as the Ray accelerator in AMD which aren't only tied to RT

nah, CDPR just promised too much (they had a "Raja moment" if i might say so   ) but the game is kinda fine ... got mine damn close to day 1 with a hefty birthday coupon which made it almost 75% cheaper ... would have i bought it full price? maybe ... (i never had any game breaking bugs even before early patches)

I'm currently messing around with an RTX 4090 on load from a buddy so I fired up CP2077 and maxed out RT.... it looks... bad. Don't shoot me, it's just my opinion. Some things are way too shiny while others are completely flat and overall, everything is slightly blurry... I sincerely don't see what all the fuss is about. The only time a raytraced scene looked decent in CP2077 is at night in corpo plaza.
