AUO to Unveil 49-inch Ultrawide Curved 5K 360 Hz Gaming Display Panel at Touch Taiwan

Tomorrow, the Touch Taiwan trade show kicks off in Taipei and AUO will be showing off a range of new products at the show, which TPU will be attending, so we'll have some hands/eyes on coverage this week. As far as gaming monitors are concerned, the big announcement from AUO is a 49-inch ultrawide, curved 5K display panel that supports refresh rates of up to 360 Hz. The company didn't reveal the actual resolution in its press release, but we'll find out at the trade show what 5K resolution means in this case, as it's most likely 5120 x 1440, since this is what most 32:9 5K displays offer today.

AUO will also be showing off a 24-inch, 540 Hz, 1080p display panel that the company claims will "eliminate screen tearing, stuttering, and ghosting issues. There's no mention of the display panel used, but it's most likely a TN panel. Somewhat less gaming related, AUO will also have a 17.3-inch, transparent Micro LED notebook panel on display, which the company says will enhance the display quality under glare, something they'll hopefully be demoing at the trade show.

Nah, if you look carefully at what's being shown on that screen, you would realize that this is the CIA/BlackOps/OmegaSector model, which means you CAN'T have one yet, at least not until 2036 or so, hehehe

Resolution names are dumb and confusing, i don't even care anymore. 4k was based 4x 1080p but 2k for example is just 2048x1080 (slightly more than 1080p) - in the case DCI 2k, the one you can actual call a standard instead of just a marketing gizmo. But then again, all too frequently 1440p is called 2k because supposedly 2560 is above 2k (2000) pixels

5k is more frequently used to describe 5120x2880 (popularized by Apple), 5k2k (or 4k ultrawide - that many people are waiting for) and super ultrawide whenever a new one is launched from time to time like here.

It's all meaningless, just ignore the bullshit 'whatever'K and check for a complete resolution spec

2k is 2048x1152.

That's QWXGA, which can also be called 2k because why the hell not after all, but the one with a standard backing it - DCI 2K - is 2048×1080

QWXGA as you seem to prefer to call it, was the PC standard 2k whereas the DCI stuff is for video professionals, which obviously helps everyone to use the same terms for the same things... I actually had a 2048 x 1152 monitor, which was sold as 2k.
That 2560 by whatever is referred to as 2k is kind of dumb though, but it seems like at some point, the consmer TV marketing naming took over and that's where we're at now. Big number first, so that's the one that matters, except for 1080p and 720p...
