hmmmm I might be enticed to buy one for say $500 CAD.................more than that, no dice.

Sorry
In two years rebrand as a 5060.

30 EUR in one week, I'll take that if it keeps going like this for two months. it's not dropping linearly but 100 would be nice.

You pay them indirectly, by giving money for their old card to someone who intents to take that money and use it to buy a new Nvidia card. :p

I'm ok with that - it's one less person buying new and I get a good deal in the process.

I could certainly use a new mid-range graphics card for 1440p, but what is currently being offered is not very enticing at all.

Ideally, it should be a latest generation card that has 16GB of VRAM and does not require a larger than 650W PSU. Anything else would be a poor compromise.

At any rate, there does not seem to be any point in making decisions before the full product ranges from Nvidia and AMD can be compared against each other, and pricing has stabilized at a reasonable level. Luckily, I am not facing any quarterly deadlines in this matter, so remaining in a holding pattern is no problem.
