Xbox Announces Lower Pricing for Series X|S Storage Expansion Cards

Microsoft's official Xbox Twitter account has today announced that its official range of Xbox Series console storage expansion cards has been reduced in price: "Think of all the new games you'll be able to download and play now . The Seagate Storage Expansion Card is now available starting at a lower price: http://xbx.lv/41e8t57." It is slightly odd that Seagate itself has not announced this lowering of gaming product MSRPs, but today's changes only affect the US market - European and UK listings feature the old prices (at the time of writing). It is not clear whether this discount is a permanent or temporary thing, but the latter is a more likely situation given rumors from last month.

It is very possible that Seagate is reacting to new competition - last month a Best Buy listing revealed that Western Digital is lining up to provide third party storage expansion cards for Xbox Series console owners. The leak of WD's incoming offerings indicated that it would be undercutting its arch rival in terms of pricing, at least with the single model that leaked (1 TB at $179.99) - Seagate has a timed exclusive agreement with Microsoft/Xbox for the licensed production/selling of proprietary cards. The officially sanctioned price drop brings the cards to more reasonable value levels, but Xbox owners have largely agreed that MSRPs were inflated from the beginning. The entry-level 512 GB Seagate model now costs $89.99 (a $50 reduction), the 1 TB model is now available at $149.99 (a $70 reduction) and the top-end 2 TB model gets the largest price slash (of $120) which brings it down to $279.99. Seagate appears to be undercutting WD's BLACK C50 1 TB model (if the Best Buy info leak price was accurate) by $30 with the official 1 TB storage expansion card.

So its dropped in price ........ But you have to live in America.

Meanwhile in UK on seagate's site the 512GB can be had for a small amount of £179.99. Only double the price.

Another situation where its cheaper to buy from America and to pay import levies on top than to buy in UK.

Also clicking on the link to the ,microsoft announcement redirects in the UK, so people in another region are hidden from the announcement, very sneaky.

In the UK the 1TB one often pops up for around £150, which is still waaaay too high for some budget 2.4GB/s NAND they took off a WD Blue drive, and stuck on a little box with a CF Express connector.

You can get 1TB 5GB/s M.2 drives for around £50-60 often.

I barely use my XSX as I can play most games on PC, but I saw that Halo ltd edition and couldn't help myself.

that's nice...but still insanely expensive compared to the current market. At least if you don't consider Seagate. (even though the xbox ssd is slower) That custom form factor is expensive (for us)

Still too damned high for what is essentially a flash drive in a custom form factor, ESPECIALLY given the recent drops in nand/flash/ram prices.... and the fact that the 2TB WD SN850x was available recently for $119-129... during which I gladly bought a large qty of them.. ....

Still not low enough. I paid only 30$ more for my limited edition Xbox one S when it was brand new it came default with 2 TB Why should I have to pay 100+ dollars just to have that much space. Ffs. Greedy mfers

I just installed a 1tb SSD into my son's PS5 for $105aud, it was $5 for the heatsink. Microsoft needs to get serious

Doesn't matter, today 2tb pcie4.0 are already commonly found around 130$, microsoft is asking more than that for 1tb
