ViewSonic has revealed a new 15.6-inch 4K OLED portable display, model name VX1622-K, to the Chinese public as reported by IT Home last week. This easily movable and convenient monitor is expected to get a global release in the near future - various hardware news outlets have found related documentation on Viewsonic's global site, as well as standard drivers signed for Windows 10 & 11 - so it seems that the VX1622-K is not destined to be a China-exclusive model.

Viewsonic's portable OLED monitor is similar in size to displays featured on industry standard laptops - coming in at 15.6 inches - its main surface is treated with an anti-glare multi-layer film. The panel can support resolutions going up to 4K (3840x2160px) resolution, with an aspect ratio of 16:9. It is capable of displaying a 60 Hz refresh rate, and can reach 440cd/㎡ maximum brightness, alongside a contrast ratio of 1,000,000:1. Screen responsive is really good with a 1 ms measured rating. Visual professionals/creative-types should be happy with the display's 100% Adobe RGB and DCI-P3 color gamut coverage, although there is a "TBD" marker next to this information on the spec sheet. Color depth is rated at 1.07 billion colors (8-bit + FRC) and settings can provide an HDR True Black 500 standard. The VX1622-K can be hooked up to computer hardware via its Mini-HDMI or Type-C connectors.

Translated VX1622-K specifications:
Panel type: AMOLED
Dot pitch: 08964 (H) x 0.08964 (V) mm
Screen Ratio: 16:9
Best resolution: 3840x2160@60 Hz
Contrast ratio: 1000000:1 (typical)
Brightness: 440cd/㎡(max)
Viewing Angle: Horizontal: 170 degrees; Vertical: 170 degrees
Response time: 1 ms
Color gamut: 100% Adobe RGB, 100% DCI-P3 gamut coverage (TBD)
Color depth: 1.07 billion (8 bits + FRC)
Surface coating: anti-glare multi-layer film
HDR: HDR true black 500
Interface: Mini-HDMI, Type-C
Audio: Multimedia speakers (Two Units rated at 1 W each)

Can I just helmet-mount this, instead of getting a 4K HDTV for a large-format display?

Joking aside: these higher quality panel portable displays are making the concept of DIY portable workstations / gaming PCs more and more tantalizing.

To be fair, makes more sense than a 4K phone.

But yeah. Even 1080p is pretty dense here.

Sad. Displays are used for more than video and gaming.
Answer me this, what’s the size of an A4 sheet of paper printed at 600dpi laserjet?

Specs look good to me. Would like to have one.

297mm by 210mm....because that is what A4 means, its a size standard for paper.
And just because you can print at 600dpi, does not mean there is a purpose to it, I mean those printer people want to sell you new printers right? so yeah ermm "this one can print at 2000dpi !! your print looks like a smudgy mess, buy our new printer"

And a display that is used for more then video? so...a static image....ok so what? what is the point of 4k on a screen this size?

I’m in the market, when I get around to it, for this sort of product, and for me, font size readability matters less than real estate. 1440p would suffice for me though.

Not four, but I might add two to my laptop bag.

This display is kinda cool. Would be better as a 25" 1ms display.
I wouldn't mind to see it as a more budget-minded 1080p offering as well, with similar size. Picture density would still be pretty darn good.
