We've seen all kinds of devices integrate E Ink technology over the years, ranging from USB flash drives to keyboards and of course eReaders. However, Philips decided it was a good idea to stick one next to a 1440p display in its forgetably named 24B1D5600 monitor. The 23.8-inch 2560 x 1440 monitor has the E Ink display attached to its right side and the E Ink display is attached on hinges and can be angled up to 45 degrees towards the main display. The E Ink display measures 13.3-inches and has a resolution of 1200 x 1600 pixels.

Although originally revealed at CES 2022, it seems to have taken Philips quite a while to bring it to market, although it appears to have been on sale in Asia for at least a couple of months by now. The main display features an IPS panel with a 75 Hz refresh rate and a brightness that tops up at a mere 250 cd/m². It has a typical IPS contrast ratio of 1000:1 and a grey to grey response time of 4 ms. However, it also doubles as a docking station for a notebook, as it has a USB-C input that supports USB PD 3.0 up to 90 W and it has a built-in Gigabit Ethernet port. It also sports a DP 1.2 input and a four port USB Type-A hub, plus an audio output. One quirky thing is that the E Ink display requires its own input which is via a USB-C port that supports DP Alt mode and that is capable of outputting 15 W of power to an attached device. The 24B1D5600 retails for around US$620 in Asia.

Can be useful to have books or some other static text on side screen without wasting screen estate on main display.

this would be good for an office job where you have to read a lot off the PC for work... honestly not a bad idea.

I love E-Ink, but don't see the utility in this hybrid.

I wouldn't mind having a secondary e-ink display just to browse sites like TPU, regular monitors give me headaches

I loved the concept! This would be tremendously useful for people like me who like to check wikis while gaming, or must look at study material regularly while writing on Word. Would be a massive timesaver. Still, it's a bit highly priced, the most senseful and economic option would be to purchase a cheap tablet for that.

It wont be good for gaming as its 6Bit + FRC panel and only does 75hz refresh rate. Purely targetted for office users.

Yeah, I figured as much, but at the same time, more innovative than any of the crap that they put out with Evnia brand so far

I read a lot scientific papers as pdf's and this would be a nice way of doing if execution is good.

Less integrated and more attached. I would say a PiP e-ink display would be integrated. That would be badass.

It would certainly have use for article-reading and even just essay writing, though it be even better if it was in basic color e-Ink. Though that's more because the use cases where I might want a color e-Ink display is for guidebooks and study texts, work texts, PDFs, etc and other things that would definitely have some color. Doesn't have to be HD Photoshop-ready tuned color; just being able to properly display diagrams of colored wiring or components would be sufficient.

I think you meant more integrated / less attached, but agreed. This just seems gimmicky.
