AMD Reportedly Adjusts Radeon RX 7600 GPU MSRP to $269/€299

According to brand new information sent to the press and influencers yesterday, AMD has likely made a last minute change to its pricing strategy - VideoCardz has communicated with insider sources and confirms that an official email contains this message: "The Radeon RX 7600 will now be available starting at an SEP of $269 USD, beginning on May 25."

Industry experts were predicting a $299 MSRP for the upcoming Radeon RX 7600 graphics card lineup, based on possible earlier communications (under embargo) from AMD, but the company has seemingly decided to change its pricing strategy ($269/€299) only three days before the May 25 launch. Its monolithic RDNA 3 Navi 33 XL GPU (6 nm) is set to go head-to-head against NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 4060 Ti graphics card range later this week - the latter's specifications look to be superior according to leaked info - so Team Red could be making adjustments in order to stay competitive in the lower-end gaming-oriented GPU market.

Even though I don't really like them this should put 6600s under $200 CAD.

So £300 probably. With perf between a 6600 and 6600XT.

You can pick up a 6700 10GB for £284 right now.

Indifferent; Performance is looking very similar to the 6650XT which you can already get for $259 brand new (I've seen $239 with rebate at Newegg today)

$269 is what it needs to be priced at simply to avoid ridicule and even then all it does is add another SKU with zero new features to store shelves that are already full of unsold 6000-series cards. It's nothing to get enthusiastic about...

Hopefully Nvidia is paying attention because AMD sure is. I’m not too happy about the 165W though.

So faster than a 6650XT, slower than a 6700XT, and priced accordingly. Doesn't sound like it shifts the price/performance chart at all, just adds another point along it. That said, 8GB is much easier to swallow at $270 than it is at $400.

Many where posting ALL OVER THE INTERNET
"Why price it at $300 and get all the negativity in reviews, only to drop it a few weeks/months later at $250? Price it at $250 from the beginning, get more positive reviews."

And I guess someone at AMD realized that this makes sense, their marketing strategy, doesn't.

Seems they got the message. That's great.

It does bring in the RDNA 3 stuff (AV1 encoder etc).
Plus, you're missing the point. If AMD didn't release another SKU, they'd just leave this (important) market segment all to Nvidia.
It's ultimately a really really cheap card that's not just done on the cheap but is also solid enough to be sold. Arguably with insufficient VRAM but that's all 6 class cards right now. Hopefully the 7600 xt comes out with 16 Go and gets a full blown explosion of value for budget buyers.

Not correct about features for those who need them. It has AV1 encoder and better media engine, plus DisplayPort 2.1 ports with more bandwidth to drive image on better monitors.

True about AV1, not that streamers use AMD anyway because older codecs are still in use all over the place and NVENC still shits all over Radeon's MCE for x264/265.

As for DP 2.1, I fail to see how it's relevant even for the 7900XTX - DP2.0 already does dual 8K 120Hz displays at 10-bit HDR and the 4090 in SLI isn't really cut out for single 8K60. We're about a decade away from needing > DP 2.0 at the moment, though it's nice to have in advance, just to solve the chicken-and-egg problem of nobody making better displays because the standard and GPUs aren't ready for it yet.

Streams do not use H.265 because of licencing fees. The 4090 is still on DP1.4.

Your language is unnecessarily dirty; and x264 narrative and performance are changing gen-to-gen. x265 is licensed. Please read more recent reviews of media engines on RDNA3. Differences in encoding quality are getting mostly to single digits and FPS output is excellent. Below is recent analysis by Jared from Tom's Hardware.

AV1 Encoding across.png

As for DP 2.1, I fail to see how it's relevant even for the 7900XTX - DP2.0 already does dual 8K 120Hz displays at 10-bit HDR and the 4090 in SLI isn't really cut out for single 8K60. We're about a decade away from needing > DP 2.0 at the moment, though it's nice to have in advance, just to solve the chicken-and-egg problem of nobody making better displays because the standard and GPUs aren't ready for it yet.
Six companies announced a new line of monitors with DP 2.1 ports at CES. Those should be coming in H2 this year. Some will have 40 Gbps port, some 54 Gbps and some 80 Gbps ports, depending on resolution/refresh rate/bit depth. So, new monitors will not only have HDMI 2.1 at 48 Gbps, but DP 2.1 ports will be on par or better with bandwidth, which brings flexibility with cables and connections, and less dependency on wide bandwidth of single HDMI 2.1 port. Perfectly reasonable development for PC monitors, considering the fact that single HDMI 2.1 port on Nvidia cards is lost once connected to 4K/120 OLED TV.

We are not "a decade away" from needing DP 2.1 - the most silly thing I have ever heard from tech nerds. We need it right now. My HDMI 2.1 port with 48 Gbps bandwidth on 7900XTX is already connected to 4K/120 OLED TV, so I have three DP 2.1 ports at 54 Gbps left for new monitors, which I will buy once available soon.

GPUs are perfectly ready for new monitors, just as they were in 2020 for 4K/120 TVs with new HDMI 2.1 ports. The same thing will now be introduced with DP standard, but even better with DP 2.1, with more bandwidth for 5K and 6K 10-bit monitors that HDMI 2.1 cannot service without DSC. For the clarity, connection to a monitor for pure images is not the same as driving game images with GPUs on such monitors. Those are two different realities. GPUs are not yet capable to run smooth images from games at 6K/120Hz, but are perfectly capable of displaying high quality still images and smooth scrolling experience through files over 40-54 Gbps connection.

New AMD workstation cards W7900/W7800 actually have full 80 Gbps ports for new studio monitors for producers, photographers, graphic designers and other creators which is great, as one 80 Gbps cable will be able to drive a few high-end monitors over MST.

Jensen decided to stick to seven year old DP 1.4 with 32 Gbps and charge for it $1,600. Absurd lack of port modernisation. By the way, it was Nvidia that introduced DP 1.4 ports seven years ago, but now they could not bother spend $2 to enhance PCB with new ports, while charging astronomical prices for GPUs.

Wow lots of complainers and no reviews even out. I think I paid about $330 for my old RX480 when it came out (before mining inflated the price)

I remember barely 1 year ago an RX6600 was going for $900 - ish CAD.................despite it's MSRP

An MSRP of $269 usd really isn't that bad. Not saying it's an awesome deal, but it's not bad all things considered.

Even though I don't really like them this should put 6600s under $200 CAD.
Not that I don't disagree with you, but with all the greedflation at every stage I don't know if it would even be profitable at that ($148 usd)?

A year ago the world of GPUs was bonkers... you are right. Poeple should remember how impossible to find GPUs were for any reasonable price. 7600 for $269 MSRP is absolutely fine for the begining.

HAGS is in the next driver update.
People have reported that the power consumption fell drastically. No clue if HAGS is the cause.
That driver will very likely come out tomorrow or very soon as the 7600's driver.
Wait and see ofc.

A $270 card going against a $400 one? I find it hard to believe, but kudos to AMD if they pull it off.

AMD lowering the price of a card not even released! Maybe it was Jesus, maybe it was Jensen.

I love that man leading AMD either way.
