Samsung Launches 2023 Smart Monitor Lineup Globally

Samsung Electronics today announced the global launch of its full 2023 Smart Monitor lineup. The new M8, M7 and M5 Smart Monitors (Model Name: M80C, M70C, M50C) from Samsung enable users to tailor their monitors to their unique styles and needs, as they watch, play and work.

"We are raising the bar for Smart Monitors globally with our new lineup and especially our enhanced M8 model," said Hoon Chung, Executive Vice President of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics. "Within a single monitor, users can enjoy the best of entertainment and gaming, productivity, design and personalized convenience and comfort."




Elegant Designs for Every Style and Space
The full lineup is comprised of nine versatile monitors to meet the needs and styles of a wide range of users. The M8, M7 and M5 Smart Monitors come in a variety of colors and sizes. The M8 and M7 models are available in 32-inches, while the M5 model is available in both 32- and 27-inches. The M8 with UHD resolution and 400nit brightness is available in Warm White, Daylight Blue, Sunset Pink and Spring Green options. The M7 with UHD resolution and 300nit brightness comes in Warm White while the M5 with Full HD resolution comes in a sleek Black or White.

Introduced with a new Iconic Slim Design, the M8 and M7 models are super slim, measuring 11.39 mm at the thinnest point on the monitor. To elevate the look of the monitor and the room surrounding it, an organic, chic herringbone pattern has been applied to the back of both the M8 and M7 models. The height-adjustable stand with tilt support helps M8 users adjust the angle whenever they need to, while creating a clutter-free environment. The screen can also pivot 90 degrees to reduce the fatigue of scrolling down long files.

Monitors That Redefine Smart Entertainment
The 2023 Smart Monitor M8 has received multiple upgrades and feature enhancements from the previous generation. Thanks to 4K resolution, HDR 10+ and 400nit brightness, the M8 delivers brilliant, vivid pictures to offer the best of smart entertainment in a monitor. M8 users can enjoy easy access to Samsung Gaming Hub, the all-in-one streaming platform, as well as Smart Hub for services such as Prime Video, Netflix and YouTube. Upgraded Monitors for Maximum Productivity
The 2023 lineup has been enhanced to make remote work seamless and effortless. The PC-less workspace allows remote access by wirelessly connecting to and mirroring PCs. The M8 has a magnetic and removable camera so users can connect wirelessly with no additional purchase necessary. Its SlimFit camera supports FHD resolution and video conferencing features. Users can now connect to Google Meet and other apps while leveraging Auto Framing capabilities for more effective meetings. Additionally, Multi View has been upgraded and now allows you to use Microsoft 365 and the Browser app in full-screen mode to reduce switching between apps.

To enhance the interface of all the 2023 Smart Monitors, mouse and keyboard control functionalities have been added to many apps, including SmartThings and Smart Hub. Users can now maintain full control, while exploring their favorite content without needing a remote.

Next-Level Monitors With New Personalized Features
Users can easily control all their in-home IoT devices from a single monitor thanks to the built-in IoT Hub, supporting Zigbee and Thread. The M8 and M7 both include built-in voice assistants, including Bixby and Amazon Alexa, enabling users to control the monitor with their voice. Far-field voice is also supported in the M8 and M7 models with a built-in mic, allowing users to speak directly to the monitor.

The new My Contents feature, now available across the 2023 Smart Monitor lineup, allows users to quickly access helpful information. When the monitor is on standby mode and detects a registered smartphone through Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), the screen lights up with the user's photos, weather and more at a glance. The monitor resumes standby mode when the smartphone is out of range.

Well, dash cam recordings can be quite helpful if you get in a crash and need some proof of your innocence. But if it's your fault it can also be used against you. So it's a double edges sword.
But having employees access to your recordings wouldn't fly in the EU. Over here it would be only accessible via court order. So it's most likely just a USA privacy issue.

Which is the reason why smart devices (TV's, smartphones, smart speaker, etc.) got so cheap in the first place. The make huge money by selling your data.
Just look at smart phones. Their real price is what you pay for them with a 2 year contract from a mobile provider. They hand them out like candy.

Bought a used first generation M7 on Ebay earlier this month for 236€ as it was the only 32-incher with a 4K-resolution I could find, and even though mine came with a deep scratch (that you don't really notice as its near the bezel and "disappears" when screen is on, probably could buff it out with "display restorer") and lacked the remote (3rd-party one was 8€ before shipping), I rather like the thing. It being a "monitor" is rather nice - auto sleep/wake like on a normal monitor is actually super useful on a TV, and combined with its built-in automatic source-detection it's very much a "set it and forget it"-solution.

Another good thing about it is the backlight - unlike on my ultrawide VA-monitor that has four visible backlight "holes" in the middle of the display, on my M7 everything is uniformally lit, blacks are inky dark, and contrast is great. Idk if this is the TV-dna shining through but I would say the panel is superior in image quality to any VA-panel I've seen in a momitor before.

That is obviously in uncalibrated vivid mode that scorches your eyes. With balanced color that is probably 200nit = light capabilities of a monitor made 20 years ago.

99% sRGB color gamut

Translation to non tech people: this is a low color range that even the cheapest monitors made 20 years ago had.

This looks targeted at this category of people:

• their dream in 2023 is to watch Netflix on a 27" display with the display capabilities of a TV made 15 years ago
• they do not have any of these devices: a phone, PC, console or media player
• they do not know the difference between a TV and monitor

If Samsung would be PAYING me to use this device, I would still refuse this trash.
