Mark Zuckerberg just announced Meta Quest 3, our next-generation virtual and mixed reality headset, which launches later this year. It features higher resolution, stronger performance, breakthrough Meta Reality technology, and a slimmer, more comfortable form factor. Quest 3 will ship in all countries where Meta Quest is currently supported this fall. The 128 GB headset starts at $499.99 USD, and we'll offer an additional storage option for those who want some extra space. Quest 3 combines our highest resolution display and pancake optics to make content look better than ever. Quest 2 Gets New Lower Prices, Plus a Performance Upgrade
We're excited for Quest 3 and look forward to sharing more later this year at Connect. But what about Quest 2?

Meta Quest 2 changed the face of VR when it first hit the scene in 2020, ushering in a new era of gaming, fitness, and more. It's already one of the most affordable ways to get into VR — and it's about to get even better. Starting June 4, we're lowering the price of Quest 2 to $299.99 USD for the 128GB SKU and $349.99 USD for the 256GB SKU, helping even more people access the magic of all-in-one VR and our vast content library.

But that's not all! In an upcoming software update, we're updating the Quest 2 and Quest Pro GPU and CPU. Quest 2 and Pro will see an up-to 26% CPU performance increase with an up-to 19% GPU speed increase for Quest 2 and 11% for Quest Pro. As developers take advantage of these changes, you can expect smoother gameplay, a more responsive UI, and richer content on both headsets. And we're enabling Dynamic Resolution Scaling for both Quest 2 and Quest Pro, so games and apps can take advantage of increased pixel density without dropping frames.

Happy to see they still care about the Quest 2 in some form right now, all I'm hoping for is for it to be supported until I can at least finish my Ryzen 7000 upgrade!
I don't really want to reinstall Windows right now, but I could if I wanted to. Going from haswell to Zen 4 would kinda force me to do a reinstall (at least a upgrade reinstall) anyways.

They increased the clock speeds of the Quest 2 not too long ago.

I wonder why they are interested in doing it already. Future game library is fairly weak. I wonder if they are wanting to bump up the performance of the Quest 2 so developers can migrate to producing their games on the Quest 3 and more easily get them to run on the Quest 2 beings that it has a larger user base. I'd imagine having games ported from Quest 2 to 3 would be less desirable.

But anyways, I don't really see the Quest 3 being as popular as the Quest 2. I have the 2, as do many of my friends, it doesn't take long to play through the library of games worth trying. It's more of a novelty device that spends its entertainment value all up front very rapidly.

Hard to imagine the 3 being as successful as the 2 when the 2's huge sales were on the back of great pricing.

I do want to enter the VR market, will be hard to decide on the 2 vs the 3, but I'd lean more towards 2 for sparing use and they're easier to drive if lower res.

Quest 2 got me into VR gaming. It's very unbalance and want to fall downward and how slippery the strap is for long hair. You will need to increase even more weight on the back of your head by switching to different strap with or without extra battery or mod yourself. I'm going to buy Quest 3 just to make my life better with how much it shrink and weight reduction from Quest 2. I'll check review first cause I'm interested in see thru AR experience to use at work and enjoy H game at home.

If Quest 3 has "DP over USB-C" function, or a separate HDMI/DP port, then it's a valuable upgrade - no more streaming a compressed video right to Your eyes. Didn't find any info about that though...

Not exactly the full options I expected for the Quest 3. The ~$500 version is about what I expected. However, given that the Quest 2 can use the Quest Pro controllers (~$300) I expected a retail version of the Quest 3 to ship with no controllers. That way the base model without controllers would or could cost as little as the ~$299 introductory price of the Quest 2. In such a case, new Quest 3 users would be limited to hand tracking only (unless they bought the new controllers separately or the old ones) and Quest 2 upgraders would have the option to use their Quest 2 controllers on the Quest 3 (saving themselves about ~$200).

Then there could be a ~$350 to ~$400 version bundled with the old controllers as an option.

All told that would be three version of the Quest 3 differentiated by the type of controller or lack there of. All very (relatively) economical based on the users preferences.

I mean if you can’t give legacy users a little bit of a break then why do you think you’ll get any brand loyalty?

Its like a Vive user being able to upgrade to a Vive Pro or Valve Index. It’s boon for them and a relatively speaking cost saving upgrade when they only need the VR HMD. The tracking method and controllers were superior so backwards compatibility made sense. Unfortunately with Oculus (Meta) they keep changing the controller and the controller tracking. With the Quest 3 they finally have an easy way to pass some savings on to the consumer but they aren’t taking using it.

So overall I don’t think they Quest 3 is worth the ~$500. I’d pay ~$300 for the Quest 3 HMD only though,…
