As soon as Xbox Games Showcase ended, Starfield Direct began, with Game Director Todd Howard and the team at Bethesda Game Studios sharing details and stories from the upcoming sci-fi RPG. The Direct began with details on the game's character customization - which has allowed to the team to introduce higher fidelity models than ever before.

We learned about the game's main questline, which will send intrepid explorers on a mission to discover the secrets of the universe. We also got a new look at how the game handles your ship's crew and Companions - the Companions you bring with you, and the crew you hire on, will provide different bonuses to your ship and outpost.

Speaking of your ship, we also got a look at how you'll be able to build, customize and upgrade your roster of ships, and got a further look at how Starfield will handle exploration. From the surfaces of over 1000 planets to the space in between, discovering what's out there is nearly limitless. All of this is powered by new technology, which allowed Bethesda Game Studios to create completely unique experiences for every player, while still applying all of the hand-crafted care players have come to expect.

Starfield launches on Xbox Series X|S and PC on September 6. Play it day one with Game Pass.

I don't think that's been announced one way or the other. Considering there is no multiplyer or competitive modes it would be pretty odd though.

Soon every game will be unless they want to rock 1080p60 on the series X let's be real it's slower than a 6700XT trying to push 4k

I thought it had a lower clocked version of the 6800 (non XT).

In raw compute the series X sits at 12.1 Teraflops the 6700XT sits at 13.2

You really think it would be different? The last console I bought was an original Playstation. Games used to be developed separately for PC and consoles back then. Like different games with the same title. Now the whole gaming industry is held back by the inferior console hardware limitations.

Consoles are built like PCs now, so I'm not sure what your point is. This generation of consoles is the last thing holding games back.

The XBOX S is a horror story ask any dev, it actually is holding back games.
Funny you mention that I have one and I like it. Sure devs have to dial the graphics down alot for that version, yet its still running at 1440p so there's room for more fps if they have a 1080p mode. Other than graphics, I fail to see how its holding back Starfield and its many many systems.

That being said, I'll be playing on my 5800x3d + 3080 ;)

Do these devs ever play any other dev's games? Living in a bubble and developing in the same bubble creates the kind of low quality output we're seeing. Brand new animation engine? ... That gunplay sucks ass. Characters are still stiff as dolls. Movement is uninteresting. Learn something from Doom ... Dam.

Benchmark Scores I once clocked a Celeron-300A to 564MHz on an Abit BE6 and it scored over 9000.
I'm worried this looks like too large a project for Bethesda to launch in even a half-working state, but perhaps this is finally the results of that big, fat, Microsoft cash infusion and better quality-control. Let's not forget that while Bethesda and Arkane both have reputations for releasing games in a buggy, broken state, they also became like that under Zenimax. Pre-zenimax Elder Scrolls games were decent at launch, And Arkane was founded from Looking Glass and Irrational Games, both with outstanding track records.

The problem might well have been Zenimax. I can hope, but I am prepared to be disappointed by the usual Bethesda nonsense at launch. I've enjoyed Skyrim and Fallout despite the bugs, and as long as they have the gameplay loop dialled in, that's most of the battle won.

Funny you mention that I have one and I like it. Sure devs have to dial the graphics down alot for that version, yet its still running at 1440p so there's room for more fps if they have a 1080p mode. Other than graphics, I fail to see how its holding back Starfield and its many many systems.

The Series S has so little RAM that developers are struggling to run their game engine in the RAM available. The 8GB shared RAM means that AAA games have barely a couple of GB to run the whole game in even when using the lowest-quality textures and the highest possible number of loading screens they're willing to accept for a decent experience.

Cross-platform devs coding games for Windows, PS5 and Series X can just allocate 6GB of RAM to run the game engine in without any issues, but they also have to launch the game on the Series S in potentially under 1.5GB RAM. Making your game work on 1.5GB RAM when everything else lets you use 6GB is a crazy restriction. IIRC they cannot release on Xbox if they don't also support the Series S.

hmm interesting turn of the tables, normally im just the one hating on everything, but this game... I mean I ahve been around long enough, but the ship building, ship stealing and being able to build bases on planets is pretty cool imo.

I would be worried if I was working on Star Citizen.

But im sure the game is going to be far to limited, a friend asked "can I murder out completely one if not all of the cities?" because that was kinda what Elder Scrolls was about, although Skyrim limited that already in nonsensical annoying ways.

and also I hope your crew isnt to forced, like you can actually freely recruit npc's.

also can NPC's steal your ship? if now, thats a fail.

There goes my life. Y0u could easily spend 1000 hours+ on Starfield IMO. This makes Skyrim's map look tiny and inconsequential.

You obviously haven't played any of the older TES games.
Daggerfall is laughing at you hysterically. That game set the trend that hasn't changed for shit since.
