A huge thank you to all of our Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition players for your record-setting support and to everyone who has played Return of Rome so far! This is the biggest DLC launch in Age of Empires II history! We've been listening to your feedback and would like to share our plan to address the concerns regarding your in-game experience and your desire to see Age of Empires campaigns in Return of Rome.

We are actively monitoring the issues you're reporting and will address them as soon as possible. This includes disruptions to your hotkey settings, issues preventing UI mods from loading in correctly, and games failing to load. The hotkey disruption was a one-time adjustment. You can visit our support page if you need help getting them reconfigured. Our teams are paying close attention to the reports you make and are thankful for your continued trust.

Age of Empires Campaigns
We will be officially bringing the Ascent of Egypt tutorial campaign, plus three AoE campaigns to Return of Rome, including The First Punic War campaign. These campaigns will launch in future updates to Return of Rome, similar to our Co-Op Campaign content rollout. More details about their release will be available soon.

Now is your opportunity to vote on the other two campaigns you'd like to see return to Rome! Voting is live and will remain open until the 2nd of June:

Which campaigns would you like to see in Return of Rome? Log on now to vote!
  • Ave Caesar
  • Enemies of Rome
  • Imperium Romanum
  • Glory of Greece
  • The Rise of Rome
  • Reign of the Hittites
  • Voices of Babylon
  • Yamato, Empire of the Rising Sun

You, the Age community, are at the heart of everything we do, and we are committed to continue to earn your trust. Your input plays a crucial role in shaping our future updates. We're currently preparing a series of hotfixes to address immediate concerns with further support coming soon.

Thank you for being with us, and be sure to vote for the campaigns you'd like to see! Wololo!

Its pretty telling for the current market in gaming that AoE 2 remastered manages to get this sort of attention isn't it.

Is Gen Z discovering what real games look like, or is this carried solely by the boomers and millennials? I'm genuinely curious what keeps this afloat now, but in a general sense.. wow.

I have no idea what keeps this game going but for some time it was dead, very hard to find players who still wanted to play on multiplayer, mostly diehard fans of the original still played. At one point I was in the top 200 ranked players for the original AOE 2 but even myself, I had to grow up and get a job and get a crazy ex-wife. Now my non crazy son plays it nonstop, he is ranked in the top 100 players.

I guess micro$oft woke up one day and saw that players where playing it more often so they wanted to make $$$$ on it. My 1st desktop with a Pentium 3 550mhz was able to play the original AOE2 game. But I am glad that AOE2 still lives to this play.

Age of Empires II just has a certain "feel" to it that nothing else has managed to replicate, including Age of Empires IV. I don't know how to describe it myself, strange phenomena.

Agreed. AOE2 Conquers is literally the only game of its genre that I (now very rarely) play.

I have an Athlon XP rig whose only utility for many years now is AOE2. :D

I love Return to Rome. Age of Empires 2 is my favorite game of all time. I tried playing AOE 1, but the pathfinding and not being able to put you troops in formation to make everything neater. I wish they could redo all of AOE 1 into AOE 2 so I could find the game enjoyable. I don't have a high end PC so I can't really enjoy AOE 4 and AOE 3 just doesn't feel right. I hope y'all keep up all the amazing and wonderful work. Although LOL and WOW are amazing in their own right, I love RTS the best. A playable work of art. Like peering into the Mona Lisa, but being able to control her to whoop someones butt! Best game of all time.
