ASRock launches the company's first all-white motherboard available on both Intel & AMD platforms, and the exciting thing is, this design is not limited to just high-end product, the first three motherboards to have this brand new outfit will be B760M-HDV/M.2 & H610M-HDV/M.2+ D5 from Intel, as for the AMD side we have B550M Pro SE. Looking good is no longer a privilege to expensive motherboards, for the first time stylish budget-friendly product has become a new trend of DIY.

Besides the brand new outfit, the functionality has been upgraded too, new Dragon 2.5G Lan and DDR5 memory support on selected models gives the new motherboard a boost of performance, all three motherboards are compatible with NVMe M.2 storage devises and most importantly, RGB LED header is available for stunning yet creative PC builds.

The fact that companies are launching new AM4 motherboards in 2023 should be a wake-up call for AMD.

Good call for everyone, that's a solid platform after 6 years!

If I had more appetite/money for AMD I'd definitely buy another AM4 board.

What? Why?
478 sold alongside 775.
754 alongside 939.
1156 alongside 1366.

People chase VFM more than anything else, at least the vast majority do, & AM4 rules on that front hands down!

AM4 has already lasted for 3 generations and over half a decade. Those sockets did not last nearly as long.

That's a plus, not a negative.

I wished Core Duo came on S478*, and A64 X2s on 754. I'm not entirely sure why Sandy Bridge necessitated a new socket, either.

*IIRC, a select few S478 boards could be modded to support 1st gen Core mobile CPUs.

I'm pretty sure this was wake-up call enough for them
Well that's a whole different argument altogether, unless you bring a billion+ new consumers from Africa/LatAm overnight the sales of "PC's" are only going to go down. Although we might see a cyclical rebound sometime in the next year or two with AM5/DDR5 getting cheaper.

It's not new boards, just a new colour SKU of existing boards.

I don't see how it's a different argument. Before AM5 was launched I said it was a mistake to forego DDR4 SKUs for the platform and it will hurt sales. I was right.

AMD moved their entire platform to DDR5/PCIe 5.0 including crucially on servers. There's no zen4 based chip which supports DDR4 IIRC so it's not economical or practical to get just a few desktop chips to support DDR4 as far as I'm concerned. Also Intel doesn't use their desktop/notebook chips on servers, AMD does with their chiplets.

I've been hearing this argument since forever, it doesn't make any more sense that it did on day 1. Clearly they are losing sales since people don't want to pay for a full DDR5 upgrade. And they do have chiplet design, it would have been very cheap for them to pair the new Zen4 chiplets with existing or node-shrunk IO dies and let people use those on AM4 mobos.

Right & I said this back then as well in another thread ~ they probably can't do DDR4 with an updated IF on the CCD's not 100% sure about this because there's very little new information on it in the last few years!

Damn you must possess a galactic intellect for predicting that a brand new platform with new DDR standard will have lower initial sales than the older established platform. I bet that none of the hundreds of engineers or market analysts at AMD ever saw that one coming. They must have been truly dumbfounded, especially after so many people already bought a new PC during pandemic and dont need another brand new one.

AM4 was one of the longest lasting platforms in quite a while with massive uplifts from zen1 to zen3x3D. And somehow people will still complain that they didn't backport zen4 to older platform lmao

It's too bad, since a B650M-HDV/M.2 would be chipset-wise a direct counterpart to the B760M here, an actually respectable board with a VRM that handles the entire CPU lineup and isn't absolute garbage-tier discretes like the other 3 here, and still doesn't cost much more. Missed opportunity from ASRock.

It would an epic fail if they couldn't do with a chiplet design what Intel was able to do with a less flexible monolithic design.

Why is it a failure? AMD moved to chiplets in order to reuse the vast majority of them, they probably only have a dozen or so different types of dies in production while Intel has at least 2-3x as many. This is also why Intel's moving to tiles as a big piece of their transition to TSMC, in part because making so many different dies would be expensive on a high end node. They can afford it relatively speaking when they fab it themselves, not when they have to pay others to make those chips! The volume on such a chip would simply not justify investments IMO ~ less IPC, due to DDR4, perhaps other issues as well?

It's a negative for the progression of technology.

Technology can progress and we can have continued support for prior generation products. These things don't exist in a vacuum, just because <new thing> is available doesn't mean <old thing> has to cease to exist entirely, or is in some way hindering <new thing> from being a technological improvement.

Your black and white world doesn't exist.
