As a part of its promotional deal with Bethesda for the upcoming Starfield game, AMD has announced a limited edition release of both its Radeon RX 7900 XTX graphics card and its Ryzen 7 7800X3D CPU. The latter is in all fairness a bit dull as far as limited editions go, as the only thing really limited is the packaging the CPU comes in. Despite being a limited production run of only 500 units, AMD didn't bother adding any extra marking on the CPU itself, making it less of a collectors edition than it could've been.

On the other hand, the Radeon RX 7900 XTX Starfield Special Edition gets a custom white shroud with a lot of little quirky bits of text on the card and an overall different feel to it compared to AMD's reference design cards. Again, we're looking at a limited run of 500 cards here too and it's not clear if these will be numbered or not. Neither product will be available to buy though, so the only way to get your hands on one or the other, is to enter one of multiple giveaways that either AMD or its partners will host in the near future. There's a video after the break with more details.

I would be more interested in a Sapphire/Bethesda collaboration personally but even when they released the Star wars Titan Xp i preferred the all black one. I did almost grab one to run SLI though but sli was already dying a slow death at that point.

Less stupid than Star Wars editions, I'll give 'em that.

I can't help but feel that absolutely none of the 'hype' and 'excitement' surrounding Starfield is organic.
All of it, looks like well-funded marketing partnerships.

I'm not even sure this kind of product has any demand...

I've never been a huge fan of Skyrim but it still sold a billion copies and people love fallout more than they should...... Guessing even with this only being on Xbox/PC it'll still be pretty huge. Bethesda likes doing these partnerships the cases with NZXT where pretty neat honestly.

Not something I'd want in my all-black build, but I admit that it looks cool.

As for the hype around the game, I'm on a "we'll see when it comes out" approach as always. Judging something that isn't even out yet, either positively or negatively, is stupid, imo.

Same, although my wife is pretty hyped for it. She'll enjoy it regardless I'm sure she really liked CP2077 and never got so hyped that it ruined the game for her. Like it did for some.

It's less about the games and more about the games offering an insane modding opportunity to create anything your little heart can imagine. Starfield has like 700 empty planets. I expect all of them to be full lush AAA experiences, isolated stories on each one, within 4 years from now, solely thanks to the nodding community.

As for Starfield, if I'm expecting a sort of Elder Scrolls in space, with all it's flaws and open world goodness. If Bethesda can deliver, I'm in.

Can't say I was that much impressed with the Starfield Direct, but the branding Bethesda and MS are creating is AMAZING.
The controller and headset are GORGEOUS, and now this 7900 XTX? o_O

If you ever make it out to Kepler 186-f on your adventures let me know, that's where I am building my space port.

Well you can design your ships, if they let me build an exotic looking ship, I will do my best to make it look like a Lynx

If possible just merge the two threads so that people will be able to read and comment on those thoughts.
Done. It was quite a bit of manual work. How do you guys like this approach? If it's something we do regularly I could write a plugin for it that automates moving the posts and adjusting timestamps

I will leave that up to you, I don't think this happens enough to warrant you doing more work. It must have just been a misunderstanding, as I was completely fine with that other thread being locked and the conversation moving here. Up to you and the news posters though if you feel it is worth your time.

Does it bundle the game for free. And i don't get it. it's like a permanent tatoo. What if I want a star wars edition tomorrow. should be detachable.

It has demand alright but it's executed as poorly as it could've been. Talking Intel Core Avengers Edition levels of bad. It's zero effort, as half-hearted as I can think it can be. Not to mention the exceedingly small amount of units - merely 500 - for a basic paint job and a Starfield logo on the box. The CPUs? Just like the Avengers models, they didn't bother even laser etching something different onto the IHS so they could be called special and collectible.

With these numbers figures, I'd say ~350 of these will be distributed in small affluent areas in the United States, with maybe 100 of these being sold in the richer Western European countries and another 50 reserved to friends of the business, AMD staff and Bethesda staff, all to massively increase their aggregated value. Live outside privileged markets? Tough luck, pal!

Regarding the Star Wars cards, how come it's less stupid? Credit where due IMHO, the Titan Xp Star Wars cards were really collectible, came with special packaging, Jedi or Empire themed shrouds each complete with its own design and lighting setup, they were actually detected separately by the driver as "Titan Xp Collectors Edition" (including with a different hardware ID for the Jedi and the Empire versions, meaning that software could technically distinguish whether you had a Jedi or Empire card by probing it), and despite the prices were manufactured in enough quantities that any enterprising Star Wars fan that wanted one and was building a PC at the time could obtain one. Or maybe even one of each and SLI them, as back then SLI was still supported (although already in an advanced stage of neglect). In a sense, they really were special and NV put some real effort in them. Remember the Cyberpunk 2077 RTX 2080 Ti's that NVIDIA gave away back then? Even those had more panache than this.

They all look ugly as hell in my opinion, the cyberpunk 2080ti was bright yellow and the star wars Titan Xp had that weird grungy looking mental finish on it, this one is the least offensive being mostly just white I guess.

Whether one is more "collectible" than the other is really only up to the brand recognition.

It didnt ruin it for me, either. I finished it and enjoyed it, honestly.

As for Starfield, if I'm expecting a sort of Elder Scrolls in space, with all it's flaws and open world goodness. If Bethesda can deliver, I'm in.
Yeah if Bethesda can do 'the thing' in space, I frankly don't mind if there are goofy bugs as long as there are goofy mods.

But if the performance is shit, that will kill the experience. The (sub) 30 FPS combat I saw in trailers didn't give the best first impressions... we'll see if the stutterfest was the video or is the game.
Still, this game is on a trajectory to completely destroy Star Citizen's chance of getting any mainstream audience, if there's any left that is. I think Roberts/RSI is about to get a reality check
