August 26 could be the day AMD's Radeon add-in board (AIB) partners announce their custom-design Radeon RX 7800 series and RX 7700 series graphics cards. Gamescom 2023 is underway, and the expo's booth for ASRock has three curious-looking placeholders in the wall with the graphics cards. The placeholders refer to new RDNA3 graphics cards coming in on August 26. ASRock makes AMD Radeon and Intel Arc custom-design graphics cards.

AMD is expected to announce its new performance-segment GPUs a day earlier on August 25, as part of an exclusive Radeon RX event headed by Scott Herkelman and Frank Azor. This is widely expected to see announcements for the desktop RX 7800 series and RX 7700 series; but it wouldn't surprise us if there are some announcements about high-end RX 7000-series mobile GPUs based on the same compacted "Navi 31" ASIC that powers the desktop RX 7900 GRE.

Should be called Snoozecom.

Seriously look at poorly the 7900 GRE performs, barely faster than the 6800XT and the 7900 has 80 CUs and the 7800XT only 60. They'll need faster memory and much higher clocks to get to that level, so more poor efficiency. It'll only out do the 6800XT in RT.

The 6800XT was a card that performed well but the power consumption for it was insane for it relatively, where as the non XT version gave up ~10% performance for a >20% power drop and in turn heat output.

If the 7800 non xt can get 6800xt performance with a decent RT uplift for the same power or less of a 6800 it will stand in good stead in terms of perf/watt value and if they price it right it could be in the sweet spot for a lot of gamers.

I bought a 6800xt earlier this year, but I spent months hoping they'd announce a 7xxx card that had similar price/performance but better power efficiency. Sounds like that's what's going to happen in the end, it just took a while.

What is this revisionist history BS? rDNA2 is quite efficient for the performance it offers, and beats the snot out of ampere in perf/watt. The 6800 was more efficient but nobody was calling the 6800xt a power hog.

You've huffed a LOT of copium, havent you? In case you missed it, the 7900 GRE struggles to beat the 6800xt in raster, and has 80 CUs. The 7800xt has 60 CUs. In what universe do you see this 3/4ths 7900 GRE beating a 7900GRE in gaming, and with lower power usage at the same time? :slap:

So when I look at reviews I can see 6800s doing pretty damn well at the 190-220 watt loading. The 6800xt is about 10% better but 250-280+ watts draw. Im not calling it a power hog overall but in relation to its brother its pretty excessive. It reminds me of X vs Non X Ryzen 7xxxs

GRE is ~5-10% faster than a 6800xt according to Hardware unboxed
It also has the same power consumption of a 6800 non xt

The 7800xt
2/3rds the CUs, with a a rumoured 20% increase in clock speed over the GRE
2/3rds the die size for power consumption

So yeah, I am definately hopeful but Id rather be that than one of the "WAIT FOR 5XXX NVIDIA" "JENSEN WILL DELIVER FOR GAMERS" etc etc etc
