Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 Gets a New Extended Gameplay Trailer

Today, Focus Entertainment and Saber Interactive, in partnership with Games Workshop, are thrilled to unveil the most extensive look at Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2's gameplay to date. In this 10-minute Extended Gameplay trailer, the explosive third-person action game shows Lieutenant Titus and his battle brothers Chairon and Gadriel taking on swarms of Tyranids on the Planet Avarax. it was the same in the first one, i believe it's for artistic effect and impact ... for me, it worked quite well ;)

That's that chainsaw chopping in. Boltgun has the same thing going on :) There you can even keep hitting the melee button to keep it spinning for moar damage

I gotta say, it looks pretty awesome, but... I hope they have a lot of tricks up their sleeve and its not just cinematic-y linear walks through endless masses of enemies.

Boltgun was my blast to the past all time favorite i bought recently ...

Space Marines 2 is my ... oh, well ... i'm off re playing Space Marine OG for a spine ... to set the mood (uuuuuhhhh aaaaahhhhh.... WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH!)

I didn't notice it, or at least don't remember it like that, to be honest. I guess it works better when you're playing the game and not just watching a video on it.

looks decent enough lets hope its not one of those trailers where you get shown the combat and then the final version is completely watered down

Yeah I see what you're saying, I'm not overly impressed with it either, kinda gives you that cartoon/platformer feel, or something, rather than making it more weighty.

Do you mean the skipping the currently performed actions? Like the animation being abruptly cut/interrupted. Yes it is eye sore. Maybe I'm too picky, but it's hard to miss something this obvious. Especially, after almost one and a half decade after first part being done. Let's hope this is just early demo, and release version won't get this minor flaw, considering all work they did already. Because it leaves bitter aftertaste, since the combat is the only thing that happens in this violent game. Which BTW overall feels massive, and impressive. ;) At least in this WIP video. Just my humble opinion.

Surely, the first Space Marine was definitely an unfinished, rushed, repetitive game and somewhat had much to be desired, especially in the terms of combat moves/actions variety. But I have to tip my hat before Relic and Vigil, because neither the SM1, nor any of the Darksiders games on the same engine, had such unnatural animation. And they captured that whole 'enormous superhuman' gist very well. It still has very spot on smooth transitions between action, weapon, movement and other animations being contineous. No choppy and skipped ones.

Though, someone gonna say it was clunky, but it still hold well to this very day. Some might also say, SM1 was just rip off of Gears of War. However neither it, nor SM1 had the melee action animation being just skipped/dropped so instantly. When the player's character has been hit or interrupted. Instead, there was another animation, of enemy repell and parry player's hits, and deflecting it, causing the player's char to fall, or lean down towards the ground. But never skipped like this.

Yes, I agree, there's however a lot of other movements and animation in SM2, that have very natural and realistic transition from one to another. So were in the first part. But these chainsword movement skipping are definitely an oversight.


Oh, and I don't want to feel rude and compare people and their qualities. But Clive Standen is definitely not Mark Strong (no offence). I understand, there must be the reasons, Mark wasn't in the game development. But his absence leaves the void in the voice acting. It was so spot on and encouraging. Now the Titus V.A. feels like the guy behind the microphone is straining not only his vocal cords, but all body muscles and ligaments as well. Yet still struggles to convince that this is two and a half meter high muckle rock. At all. It feels like a teenager trying to mimic the adult man. Maybe someone fell for misconception, and thought the big and beefy men, have deeper voices... :laugh:

As about voice acting in games, the DoW 1 and the Dobson brothers did a stellar job. These quotes will live many years, as much as the memes they caused. :D
