Underscoring NVIDIA's growing relationship with the global technology superpower, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with NVIDIA founder and CEO Jensen Huang Monday evening. The meeting at 7 Lok Kalyan Marg—as the Prime Minister's official residence in New Delhi is known—comes as Modi prepares to host a gathering of leaders from the G20 group of the world's largest economies, including U.S. President Joe Biden, later this week.

"Had an excellent meeting with Mr. Jensen Huang, the CEO of NVIDIA," Modi said in a social media post. "We talked at length about the rich potential India offers in the world of AI." The event marks the second meeting between Modi and Huang, highlighting NVIDIA's role in the country's fast-growing technology industry.

The meeting with Modi comes just a week after India became the first nation to successfully land on the Moon's south pole, highlighting the expanding technological capabilities of the world's largest democracy.

Following Huang's meeting with Modi, Huang met with several dozen researchers from global powerhouses of science and technology, such as the Indian Institute of Science and the various campuses of the Indian Institute of Technology, for an informal dinner.

The attendees represented a dazzling collection of some of the top minds in fields as diverse as large language models, astrophysics, medicine, quantum computing, and natural language processing.

The evening's discussions ranged across topics from the use of technology to address language barriers, improve agriculture yields, bridge gaps in health care services and transform digital economies—as well as addressing some of the grand scientific challenges of our time.

NVIDIA has deep ties to India.

NVIDIA began operations in India in 2004 in Bangalore, almost two decades ago. India is now home to four engineering development centers in India—in Gurugram, Hyderabad, Pune and Bengaluru—and there are now more than 3,800 NVIDIANs in India.

In addition, there are more than 320,000 India-based developers in NVIDIA's developer program. NVIDIA's CUDA parallel programming platform is downloaded roughly 40,000 times a month in India, and NVIDIA estimates there are 60,000 experienced CUDA developers in India.

That growth comes as India's government continues to expand the nation's information technology infrastructure.

For example, a compute grid is expected to link 20 cities across the country soon, helping researchers and scientists collaborate and share data and computing resources more efficiently.

That effort, in turn, promises to help support India's ambitious development goals in the years to come.

Modi has set a target of 2030 for India to become the world's third-largest economy. It's currently the fifth largest.

And Modi has set a target of 2047, the hundredth anniversary of India's independence, for the South Asian nation to join the ranks of developed economies.

Jensen still chose to wear the leather jacket despite it being summer in India. Now that's company spirit!
Not summer, it's early Autumn. Summer lasts at most June/July because Monsoons usually cover the entire country by then.

So depending on where you are it's currently mildly hot, slightly chilly, or stupidly humid. The south is almost always hot because of the proximity to the equator.

India can become a true powerhouse if only they overhaul their road Infrastructure. I went to India 6yrs ago, I've never seen much madness on those roads in my life. Mopeds driving on the wrong side of the roads, people honking just cause, other people honking on the people who honked. Pure madness.

Its a game CEO which even contemplates investing in India. Foreign investment partnerships have a rough history in India due to a variety of factors that can boil down to 'India first in every aspect' rather than 'India first on balance' which has led to many foreign entrants exiting, usually with their assets being either firesaled or 'appropriated' on the way out the door.

I think (not sure tho), Jensen can afford air conditioning, if he wants he can pay someone to hold one close to him

Road infra isnt a problem but its the lack of enforcement of traffic rules by Traffic police dept(rampant corruption and weakening of powers of dept). Also development projects seem take too long which causes traffic woes in cities. These days I have started to use a cycle for daily commute and its not only faster but also far less mentally stressful compared to driving/riding bike.

If we're talking graphics here, Nvidia isn't the one AMD should be worried about. They already lost that fight. It's Intel, and they're coming for AMD's lunch.

It could be a good time to invest in India with ETF's.

India is a huge market but there is so many things to fix in India. I hope the gov has a plan for all of this. The investment could be good for the economy but it wont fix poverty which is high in India.

That might've been true pre 90's but I don't remember any (major) JV going that route in the last 30+ years. Do you have any examples?

Modi has set a target of 2030 for India to become the world's third-largest economy. It's currently the fifth largest.

Modi doesn't know that India is already the third largest economy in the world, when normalised for equal prices and currencies values.

Looking at GDP in PPP (purchasing power parity) terms removes price level differences and allows a better comparison, especially of living standards, between countries.
In these terms Russia has just overtaken Germany to become the fifth wealthiest economy in the world and the largest in Europe, worth $5.3 trillion.

Modi met with the wrong person. He needs to meet Taiwanese TSMC's representatives in order to build semiconductors fabs in India.
I see that there are too many software developers in India but that's not where the real money is.

Ford shot themselves in their foot while Chevrolet is doing fine in India market. Walmart is also doing fine given they seem to have takenover assets of another Indian etailer. Carrefour who are they never heard about them? There are many other American brands(IBM(they have a complicated histroy during Licence raj era), PepsiCo, Coke, P&G, McDonalds, Nike, etc...) doing perfectly well in India.

nVidia already has quite a few R&D centers running in India, so this meeting might have been just a symbolic one arranged prior to G20 summit happening in Delhi.

Guess Jensen would love to move production to India to cut production costs since China gets more expensive with rising wages. Political tensions and IP theft might be another concerns. :) Will take a while till they are there, they got still a lot to catch up, but it's just a matter of time. Their median age is also lower (India 28,7 vs. China 38.4), so that's another bonus. Loads of young tech interested people.

Just watch out, if the king of Indiana, Shah Rukh Khan, appears on the guest list for the next talks, things getting serious.

GDP Looks good on paper, but if you look at how the wealth is shared among the population in Russia or China compared to western countries, it looks quite grim. ;) You also have to look at the global currency value, 1 Indian Rupee = $0,012, 1 Russian Rouble = $0,010. International products are only on the shopping lists of the super rich.

I don't believe a meeting like this is symbolic. It will bring something to the table or take something from it. You do not announce that type of meeting to the press and then you say it is symbolic and you just sit drinking coffee or tea and eating a bagel and that is it. If you sit in a coffee shop with a friend cause you met him or her in the street spontaneously that is symbolic. If you announce a meeting or gathering to all your friends it has an agenda like a party for instance. This one presented here is not symbolic for sure. If you read OP's post carefully, you will understand there is nothing symbolic about it.
