During launch-weekend, Payday 3 had a peak of concurrent players (CCU) across all platforms of 218,250, and a peak of 1,347,510 unique players (DAU). Starbreeze Nebula currently has 3,794,172 registered users. Payday 3 matchmaking infrastructure has not performed as tested and expected. Matchmaking software encountered an unforeseen error, which made it unable to handle the massive influx of players. The issue caused an unrecoverable situation for Starbreeze's third-party matchmaking partner.

A new version of the matchmaking server software was gradually deployed across all regions leading to improved performance. However, a software update made by the partner during late Sunday again introduced instability to the matchmaking infrastructure. The partner continues to work to improve and stabilize Payday 3's online systems.

The issue in question did not manifest during Technical Betas or Early Access due to the specificity of rapid user influx and load-balancing. Starbreeze is currently evaluating all options, both short- and long-term. In the short-term, this means Starbreeze's focus is to ensure the player experience. In the long-term, this means evaluating a new partner for matchmaking services and making Payday 3 less dependent on online services.

"We are disappointed in the issues our playerbase has faced during our launch weekend, but we are confident in our core product and the quality of Payday 3 - and all available metrics point to it. We have a lot of diligent and consistent work ahead of us to regain community trust, but we will work hard to do it." said Tobias Sjögren, CEO of Starbreeze Entertainment.

Current server status will continuously be communicated through our social channels here.

In Payday3 example, solo isn't so much lagging as you are more than likely not getting into the game due to matchmaking issues. Yes, you need to go through matchmaking to play in any form and that still seems to be broken today on high-usage times.

Yes, I am salty. Had most of the weekend free for playing and Payday3 release seemed to be right in time. Stupid expectations that game can be played, right :)

Edit:
Payday3 matchmaking sucks ass by the way. They seem to have learned nothing from their own previous releases and not from other improvements around matchmaking. Select heist, difficulty and public/friends/invite and go. No rank range, no choice about what the approach should be or any other thing that might be helpful. Chat/voice chat seem to be missing for lobbies as well etc.

I enjoyed their updates on twitter that they had 'resolved' the issues once peak times were over only for them to come back right around the times everyone would be logging on and trying to play again.

I enjoyed PD:TH and PD2 so much, it's a shame to see the sequel in this state. Everyone saw this catastrophe coming from a mile away when they announced this was to be online only. Maybe will get it on sale in a while if they add an offline option.

Well, that's what you get for dumping STEAM's servers and selling out to EPIC. :D All the bad PR and tons of negative reviews. Guess it didn't pay off in the end, eh?

Same story every fking time. You would think those devs would learn already via the hard way.
Wishful thinking.
