It is possible that Fry's missed out on getting some immediate stock, so they are taking some sales from others with a lower price. You may have to wait a week to get the card, but the savings may justify that duration for some.

I'm starting to be tempted by the Green team here. My AMD board easily mods into an SLI board, and my Intel board that needs rma'd is a 680i. I could sell my 2900 on ebay, and probably get enough for 2 of these, well darn close, anyway.

Why? The 8800GT puts them to shame. It's almost as fast as the GTX.

Ok...i'm lost. I think i missed something somewhere so correct me if im wrong.

1x 8800GT = Faster then 1x 8800GTS?

because all along i though that the GT model was a more shall we say lower class/range card then the 8800GTS's....

I have read a few reviews of the 8800GT's but i havent really paid much attention

You would think! only Nvidia wanted to lose the trust of their loyal buyers by pulling this crap 2 weeks after some of us droped 400 on secound 8800 gts 640. And acording to evga its not an upgrade going from a gts to a gt my only hope is some numb nuts on ebay has not heard about this  or just keep the 2 8800 gts 640's. :twitch:

sorry to dissipoint but im not a loyal Nvidia buyer. this is the first time ive ever actually considerd going Nvidia - otherwise all I do is just read reviews & think "hmm that looks good" so please forgive me for being a total Nvidia noob

therefore ergo 8800GT is faster then a 320Mb 8800GTS but not faster then a 640Mb 8800GTS??

since you did say that it wasnt an upgrade going from a GTS to a GT which would make the GTS a more powerful card which would also mean that performance wise is THAT the GTS is much closer to the GTX then the GT???

there for I was correct in saying that the GT was a 'lower' class card if by a tiny smidge?

The GT is faster than the 640 GTS too, I will have to see how it competes with my old 2900 pro/xt

thank you for kicking me out of a rather enigmatic ramble (going to have nightmares about the words 'GT' & 'GTS' when i got to bed tonight) & putting my mind at rest :):toast:

In which case, I cant wait to see if they will bring out a much better stock cooler for the card. I head the fans on them are pretty noisy & since i have a hex mesh side panel have 2 of these cards are going to sound like a diving plane squeeling as the wind tears at its wings. the kind you get in the old classic war movies where people fly spitfires n P-51 mustangs (etc) that brief...Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee *omg im on fire must bail out* kinda wheeeeeeee kaboom
