Dave the Diver is still number 5 best seller as it was when it launched, wild. That game came out of nowhere, awesome to see it doing well.

Horzon Zero Dawn has reached an all time low of $12... I am tempted...

and by far most games will just drop back to the same price they have maintained for years now, the barely functioning Prototype 2 is going to be 7.50 again like it has been on every "sale" for the last...what? 7 years.

yeah, Valve Steam sales used to be legendary, should be another point against them how stale they have been for so many years now, but most people have forgot how good they used to be @nomdeplume @Nordic

But there was this one time, 31st Oct 2017 - 14th Nov 2017 where it was sold on the Humble store for 5,04€. Must have been an error since no official store tried to pull that off ever again, lol.

Prototype 2 is a Activision game (Call of Duty - Series), which pretty much explains the pricing/discount model. No matter how old the game, there is a red line for discounts. It will sell anyways.

Meanwhile bethesda, when a game is a nanosecond old, they drop the base price and give it a 90% discount (doom 2016 is 4 euro under an 80% discount, also forget that it was 7 years ago; prey 2017 is 3 euro under a 90% discount).
These sales are still insane, under the right publisher (and if the game is also just a bit old).

A hurting point though is how after a while of experiencing sales, they stop feeling that special, and this gets worse when you go back to look at the stacked library that you've probably built thanks to these sales, so there's nothing to buy anymore.

Valve pretty much outsourced discounted games to key resellers. ;) That way they don't have to provide support. People are also tempted to buy more games than they ever can play in their lifetime when they are cheap while those with too much money still buy on the store. It's really a win/win situation.

Key resellers are a major reason why in a lot of cases you don't see these insane discounts anymore.
When a game gets sold for really cheap, extra keys are bought up and sold at a bit above that price for some time.

Another factor is games getting sold through other stores. with lower commissions such as the humble store, Fanatical or greenmangaming just to name a few. Those may see larger sales.

Why do those Call of Duty games keep having those over expensive prices even after all those years??
I only want to play the Campaign, not their shitty multiplayer and zombie crap. So unless they do something like 75% discount, I will never buy those.

HZD is definitely worth a playthrough if you enjoy a solid mix of narrative, stealth, and action. It still looks awesome despite its age, too.
prey 2017 is 3 euro under a 90% discount
One of Arkane Studio's best games, I paid £20 for it and I wish I'd bought it at full price to support more of this quality/type/genre from Arkane.

Its weird to see people complaining about sales. They're not legendary anymore, but at the same time as a working adult I don't have to worry about missing a flash sale or some other crap.

Remember back to when retail stores had a stranglehold on game purchases. Welcome to EB Games / Gamestop / Toys R' Us here is $2 credit for your 3 month old trade in, enjoy your brand new $60 game...

I have enough games in my library to last me a lifetime playing at the rate I currently do.

I've gone full patient gamer at this point. Keeps my hardware costs down, and I don't buy games until they hit that magical $10 price point so even if the game isn't great, its not like I'm out so much money I have to go complain about it on TPU's forums...

I've enjoyed PC Gaming as a hobby and the games as products more ever since.
