Does this have standard or graphical bios? Is iefi accessible in the bios? Does the manufacturer software of the memory and ssd recognize and support their hardware? What is the manufaccturer and part number of the motherboard? These are all issues that I had with the UM790 Pro, and don't want to repeat with another minisforum device. I'm tired of several crashes/day...

Thats the barebone price. I have the minisforum um790 pro which I added OCulink and have my 7900xt connected. Works like a charm. Yes its a uefi bios but the bios is very spartan like the laptops.

Yea the old model um790 pro systems did crash alot, The new ones with the A series board and bios 1.04 from factory work well.

I updated the bios to 1.07 and haven't had a crash today.... hoping it remains stable because I really like this pc.

UPDATE: 11/17/2023 6 days and still no crashes. The 1.07 bios is working well for me in the um790 pro

I really thought about grabbing one of these, but I can't find a decent oculink box to shove a graphics card into. There are tons of TB3 enclosures out there, but not really any oculink ones. The GPD G1 is pretty nice, but $700+ seems steep for an RX 7600M XT. I'd consider $500 if it included a decent warranty and was sold in the U.S. by a reputable vendor.

2. Optional if you need an oculink adaptor : M.2-M key PCIe x4 SSD to U.2 OCUlink SFF-8612 Adapter Card Gen4/Gen3 for NVMEU.2 From ebay. Make sure its 2280 size. 3. 1. 36 dollars 2. 9-11dollars 3. 31-35 dollars SO YOU WILL HAVE A SETUP FOR 70-80 BUCKS USD.

Let us know how that works out for you.

I was hoping for something a bit more enclosed, shall we say. I want to replace my full tower with something more compact and efficient. Also, I don't want to give up the option of firing up any game I'd like to play, settings maxed at 1080p. I figure with an external GPU, I can have it powered off except when I need the additional GPU power.

This with oculink instead of TB3 would be perfect!

AKiTiO Node Titan Thunderbolt 3 External GPU Enclosure (eGPU), Aluminum, 85W Charging, up to six 4K displays, 650W PSU, Thunderbolt Cable, Compatible with

Minisforum solved the initial um790 heat problem by limiting cpu power and adding a 2nd fan. It worked well, so they increased the power on a 7840hs unit to match the speed of the 7940hs. They added the extra RJ45 port and the Oculink port as features to attract gamers and make it different than the um790. I'm happy with the 780M graphics and don't need the extra RJ45 port, so the um790 is still a better choice for me :) It's very fast and will run cooler than the um780 xtx.
