I probably came from the trash. Likely old obsolete tech they bought from another vendor.

No real datasheet or details. All I could find suggests only one 4K @ 60Hz and thats 8bit and with compression. With dual screen, its probably 2x 1080p 60Hz. The Belkin website also speaks of HDMI Alt-mode protocol, which is pretty dead AFAIK.
This must be the cheapest version of an old DisplayLink chip. Probably 5 Gbps upstream.

Why release this weird looking thing, when they already have a nice clean model with DisplayPort, HDMI etc at half the price.

Regarding VGA port, you would be surprised how many Datacenters out there are using on site old monitors with that port.

Why the hate for VGA?
Yes, it's likely the DAC is not 'exceptional' (like oldskool GPUs mid DVI-HDMI mass-adoption).
But...
For 1. VGA is still widely-used for projectors/presentations. Esp. as a 'pro-market dock' this is extremely important.
For 2. VGA is (arguably) 'more-easily modded'.
Towards both points: most of your 'cheapie' HDMI/DP->VGA adapters are 'crap' to downright dangerous (for connected equipment).

If one wanted to use some modern computer for Emulation or multi-VM 'retro use' (while adding full 'modern' I/O), VGA is easily broken-out to true RGB BNC or Component RCA connections.
Fun fact: most 'cheap' consumer CRTs can be 'hacked' to support full-RGB, by modifying and overriding the OSD's input(s)

(Using a quality VGA-supporting 'dock') One could use any of the myriad of full-fat USBC-supporting mini/portable PCs, and 'expand it' into a Multiple (virtualized) OS Machine with full modern-I/O support.
Admittedly, this is a little spendy for such uses but, I've yet to see a (non-OEM-supplied non-proprietary) dock with such wide expansion options.


Is this a "Full USB4" dock*? Regardless, I've yet to see a TB3/4 Dock/Hub that's "affordable".
Most-anything marketed for "Thunderbolt" is tagetted at "professionals" and Mac(Pro) users; all of which are more than capable/willing to $hell out $$$

*It'd be well-worth the $$$ if it supported USB4's PCIe (and on-dock PCIe switching).
The TB3+4 support, implies it might; which, goes a LONG ways towards making the $200 MSRP 'a value'.

They had a great idea with the design and placement, but my god it is expensive. Make it usb3.0 and sell it for 50-75 bucks or something like that, I'm still using a 10 year old lenovo usb3 dock I got second hand for 50 bucks and for work it has more ports and speed than I will ever need for office use. In fact, I think it has rougly the same port sans the sd card socket and the pd1.0 port but instead has a couple of usb2.0 for mouse and keyboard.

It's been a long time since I've used or bought a DP to VGA adapter. That being said, over ten years ago when I worked in desktop support. We deployed literally hundreds of cheapo DP to VGA adapters with zero issues. I think we had one of them come DOA and one that failed after a few days.

I'd much rather have all DP ports and use adapters when needed than have a dead-end analog port. VGA just needs to die already!
