Seasonic, one of the leading manufacturers of high-quality power supplies for the PC market, has announced a significant enhancement to its customer service offerings. In a move that underscores the company's confidence in its products' durability and performance, Seasonic has extended the warranty period for its VERTEX power supply units from the industry-standard of ten years to as much as 12 years. This extension applies to its popular series of power supplies, known for their reliability and efficiency. The company's decision reflects its commitment to excellence and its belief in the longevity of its components, aiming to provide users with added peace of mind and long-term value.

The VERTEX series of PSUs are Seasonic's first ATX 3.0 models on the market, which bring a plethora of features like complete modularity, 80+ Platinum efficiency, support for PCIe 5.0 devices, 12VHPWR cable, and now an upgraded warranty period of 12 years. The extended warranty indicates that Seasonic is prepared to back its claims of great product lifespan, reinforcing its position as a trusted name in power supply solutions.

Both of my computer have Seasonic PSU-s for a reason.
For me does not really matter if it's 10 or 12, because in that time you might need a new one anyway to support your new parts with compatible connectors.

For the oddball-few of us that like to build PCs to last years, this is quite attractive. Will keep in mind, next PSU I need.

The Super Flower box I have comes with a 10 year warranty but a lot of lower end parts typically offer around 3 to 5ish

Some of them do, yes. My last Seasonic PSU in 2016 had a 10 year warranty; had to swap it about a year ago though, due to weird power issues. The PSU in my rig now, a Corsair RM 1000x, has a 10 year warranty as well. But most lower-quality PSUs feature between a 3 and 5 year warranty -- and if it's any less than that, head for the hills! :fear::fear:

This is marketing, because their quality dropped a fuckton during covid, even for their PRIME units - I've had to deal with their RMA early this year and it was as bad as RMA experiences go, in all the years I've been in IT, from any company too. Been buying them for years too but its time to switch.

TLDR - PRIME unit came with low quality cables Seasonic was getting from 3rd party suppliers, that would loose connection after just a couple plug in cycles. Coil whine worse then any GPU I've ever heard and the fan started to rattle. All this in just 6 months of use.

it's rare tho. but evga, corsair, be quiet has 10 years warranty.
but for example, top quality brand super flower that is oem for evga and some other premium brands, gives only 5 to 7 years.
also xfx that is basically made by seasonic has just 7 years.
and still whole 12 years is unique by seasonic for quite long time.

10yr warranties are generally only offered with a companies high end units period. Seasonic, Corsair, Bequiet!, etc all have lower tier units that only come with 7yr or 5yr warranties.

The reason this is making the news is the Vertex series is only their gold rated, which has historically come with a 10yr. Bumping it to 12yr is essentially saying they have the same confidence in their gold rated units as their titanium. They're putting the competition on notice.

Next, they need to make them affordable again!

Yep, the best kind of marketing. The kind that benefits the customer ;)

It's unfortunate that you had a poor experience with their support staff.
Mine was the exact opposite. Top notch from start to finish. Had my new unit within a week. Popped it in my clients build and its been bullet proof since.

Because of how painfree that experience was with their tech support, I'll obviously continue to use their gear in my builds.

Super Flower was an OEM for EVGA on some of their best PSUs. They've also used Seasonic as an oem on the G6/P6 models. Most of the SF and Seasonic OEM supplies had 10 year warranties. They've also used FSP for many supplies since they "broke up" with Super Flower. Their FSP oem supplies have ranged from 3-year to 10-year warranties. Basically, they're all over the place, even on their higher-end supplies. Their Super Flower oem supplies were awesome though.

Their newest supplies that launched this year with 12VHPWR connectors have only 3-year warranties...not sure they're bad supplies, but I get the feeling EVGA just may not be around longer than that.

I'd bet my recently bought platinum Seasonic will last about as much.

AFAIK the only part that can go wrong are the capacitors?

Just using the 12VHPWR plug can make that fail. Hope they offer free upgrade of cables to ones with newer 12V-2x6 plugs.

I have a seasonic psu or more precisely short of a seasonic psu.

Its a phanteks revolt x 1200 watt unit that is designed by phanteks but manufacturer by seasonic and has as well 12 year warranty. It literally stand with big letters on the box it comes in.

I have two of these units. One as a backup and one in use. Its because i have a dual system powered by one psu. If this psu blows up and i Cant get a new one. It will render my system only half usable as this is the only psu i know that can power two pc's at the same time. So i took the safe way and got two so i do not stand in the future with a bad psu that no longer are on sale.

In short. I can hardly believe that they dont give this long warranty with out stand by on there products. If they have to replace them later down the road, it can be a Exspensive mistake.

But how to get warranty? Most of your hardware have to be shipped to another country. In 12 years your seasonic is out of date und the shipment cost are much higher than the value of the psu. Next i had to present a proove on my faulty psu. They dont take it out of no reason back. But i get support and my next psu will be seasonic again. Or maybe i take a look on an rebrand like revolt or asus.

Fans can fail.

Dirty power & power spikes can make a number of other parts fail too.
If you're buying a high end power supply I would always recommend putting it behind a decent quality UPS to avoid exactly this, it's also nice to get a few minutes to shut your system down cleanly in case it drops all together.

My experience with them 2022 was really good. I had a new unit a week later at my door. In my experience their customer support always answer in a timely manner and they have no issues with questions or general purchasing advice either, i can't say the same about other brands.

Not many. PC Power & Cooling did too (I think), that Silencer worked for 15 years. :) It still works, but 5V rail is now weak.

Yes. I was reading PSU DB RealHardTechX, very carefully. all these years. it's a big loss that they decided to close the project.
