Homeworld 3 Gets PC System Requirements

Gearbox Publishing and Blackbird Interactive have officially unveiled the system requirements for Homeworld 3, the highly anticipated next installment in the GOTY-winning sci-fi RTS series, launching in 2024. Blackbird Interactive continues its work to optimize the game to ensure the fidelity, scale and immersiveness of Homeworld 3's gameplay can be experienced across a wide array of PCs.

Players with the latest graphics cards and processors can enjoy the game in 4K with all of the settings turned up while players with older components can still experience Homeworld 3's hallmark 3D strategy experience with dynamic space battles and incredible visuals.



Homeworld 3 also supports the latest graphics technology, including:

• HDR & Ray Tracing: HDR and Ray Tracing, for soft shadows with contact hardening, can be enabled on compatible graphics cards.
• AMD: AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution 2 will be supported for compatible AMD, NVIDIA and Intel graphics cards.
• NVIDIA: NVIDIA DLSS 3 and Frame Generation will be supported for compatible NVIDIA graphics cards.
• Intel: Compatible with Intel ARC series of graphics cards.

As a long time Homeworld fan I am not entirely convinced that RT is of any real use considering the perspective and pace that one plays those games at usually. Like really, are you going to be staring at the subtle differences in shadows during a space battle with about a billion explosions and flashes of beam weapons going off every nanosecond or so? Seems silly and a waste of performance.
But I guess this is just “the way it is” nowadays.

I don't know if I believe the system requirements based on more recent games that came out....they expect us to believe you can achieve ULTRA performance settings with just a paltry RTX 3080 or RX 6900? Where's the spot on the chart showing you need to run DLSSupercalifragilisticexpialidocious to reach a playable frame rate even though you haven't enabled any of the RR or RT options?

All kidding aside the requirements seem pretty good when compared to other games that have recently released. Also, only 40GB of storage needed. That's pretty nice, too. These 150GB+ games are nuts.

RTS games, by their nature, are not particularly taxing in terms of graphics. You're either zoomed in looking at a single unit or handful thereof, or zoomed out watching your fleet do battle with another. In both cases the poly count is relatively low.

Low poly count doesn't mean a game can't look good and run on hardware that doesn't cost you thousands of dollars.

I was thinking the exact opposite: space RTS has it easy. Lots space out there, so low-poly count, units rendered from afar, no interiors with decorations to bounce a light beam off a million times... If anything the requirements seem quite steep.

Just turn it off. Games have built in telemetry so good chance they know how many people actually use RT. Our voices might be heard

I mean honestly, for the perf hit there isn't a single game I'd roll with RT on right now if I actually just want to play and not see if the marketing talk is true, to conclude its not if you look a bit harder. This tech is unfinished, below par, and certainly not in tune with 'real lighting conditions'. Its mostly just begging for your attention by costing a lot of frames.

I'm afraid this game might be yet another push to get an X3D for me too... Still odd to see the requirement rise with resolution like it does though. The simulation is the same..

Good chance we get away with 60 FPS, give or take...

You will only see that bullshit in corporate driven AAA. Any real studio knows people don't give a shit, just make a game that runs proper.

RT High according to those specs for me. I was a beta tester on the original game. it is my favorite RTS franchise. Hope the game is as good.

Based on system requirements, the game should at least could take advantage of 8 cores/16 threads and mayne more based on that 12 and even a 16 core is needed.

Time will tell.
