Microsoft Xbox Series S now commands a street price of just $239, at which it poses a serious threat to 1080p class gaming graphics cards. The Series S can play all of the latest AAA games with the best possible settings at 1080p, and is capable of 4K Ultra HD entertainment. $239 is about the same price as the latest 1080p-class desktop PC graphics cards, such as the Radeon RX 7600, the GeForce RTX 3060, or even the Arc A770. Meanwhile, the premium Xbox Series X, designed for 4K Ultra HD gaming, is selling for 20% less than its launch price, going for $399 (which is supposed to be the launch price of the Series S). At $399, the Series X offers a compelling alternative to a mainstream gaming PC.

lol did Microsoft say that or did we make it up for the story? Not best possible in terms of FPS, resolution or in game settings (equivalents), not even against the other consoles let alone a decent PC.

Don't get me wrong they're both quite good prices for how much hardware you get, but that statement is laughable.

The best possible settings on a Series S :D
Very crafty sentence, that marketing statement there.

Great, hopefully this forces Sony to slash price of ps5 too, the new slim redesign is cheaper to produce yet still 500$ with a stand sold separately
You think it might? Sony has quite the grip right now...

I'm sure they are making a nice little profit for $400, not much but some. Not so sure about the S though, but why anyone would buy one of those is beyond me.

But it's also disingenuous to compare these to a graphics card. The GFX card market is insane today, with 200-500% + markups. A $239 card does not cost $239 to make, more like $80. We have been conditioned over the last few years by Nvidia and now AMD to think these things are made with magic and platinum and they're doing you a favor by selling one to you for the low-low amazing, buy now or miss out price of $239!

My 9 year old nephew has had one for about a year and likes it, only connected to a small 1080p TV in the kids room, and he doesn't have the stringent IQ and FPS requirements his Uncle has ;) Pretty sure he plays Roblox and Lego games.

It has a place for sure, but not on my shelf

For Portugal, its 429,99€ for the Series X (down from 499,99€) and 199,99€ for the Series S (down from 299,99€). It did update this week, so far without being announced as being part of a sale, just regular price.
The S Carbon just sits at 359,99€, on sale at some places for 319,90€.
But the expression here for XBSX|S is even lower than the XBONEX/S was, even during black friday when surprisingly the XBSX dropped to 389,99€, I was not seeing 'without stock' notifications anywhere.
