M$ is acting fast to protect its xbox live cash cow, banning consoles for using modified files is too much they should just use punkbuster instead.

This means:

If I was using my Xbox online, the doorbell bell rings, I open the door and my friend:toast: is there.
He see my xbox and he asks me to play with it online, because he doesn't have one. this means I will be banned if i let him play it....? :wtf::banghead:

How are they even going to see that the files are done like that? Ok... Say a person has to sleep and work, or school... What, they're going to go to EVERYONE's job, or school and get their schedule and see when they do their deeds? Come on now... It's just plain stupid.. I can see if someone can copy another users profile and make their own, but couldn't they just make a patch that you download that makes it to where you CAN'T do something like that? I know it cost money to change your account in name and transfers... Well Lou, looks like you can't touch my 360 anymore!

I think this is more for the instance of me PMing you my login and pasword to my account , then you playing my character under a different IP address. I could be way off base here , but this is just to do away with sharing your membership. Wether its just so they (your friend) doesnt have to pay for LIVE , or as stated to deprive ppl from unfair advancing of stats/levels!

You have a point there.. The only thing that gets me on if it was to be looked at under your IP address, what happens when you do a Lan party and you advance your profile while doing that 24 hour marathon of games? Now if the IP address was from another state and back and forth it was used in two states in the same day... I can see that being banned.

yeah i cant stand other people/players who ruin the fun that the game was intended to do, but nowadays games...multiplayer games leaves the average player more frustrated and "left-out" I mean i guess people see 'cheating' differently....theres a difference between playing "cheap" and "cheating" see it aint cheating if the game already allows you to do it. I mean so what u press a couple buttons and all of the sudden u have infinte lives, obviously the game coders put in there. But putting in ur scripts and command lines...thats a different story...being cheap is doing the same move over and over, like fighting games...but im all in for halo 3's tournament hell yeah!

Now that right on the money...He should just made the statement read: that any type of modifying of saved data would be you losing all rights to play Xbox Live.

Uh... This is the Techpowerup twist of 1UP's version of what was actually said.
Larry Hryb is a well meaning man, and wants to make sure the Xbox Live community is full of people who do not cheat to get any of their achievements. Hryb is announcing a ban on any Xbox Live user who is caught sharing their account with someone who advances ranks, achievements and Gamerscores while the actual account owner sleeps. In a Halo 3 Blog Post, Hryb urged gamers not to fall to the temptation of cheating, and proposed that cheating is probably not worth the risk anyways (what if the guy supposedly helping you stabs you in the back and steals your account?)

Hryb also announced that cheating through modifying save files will result in your actual console being banned from Xbox Live.

Source: 1Up

Here's what was actually said.
I have mentioned this a couple of times on my podcasts, but I want to make sure those that don't listen to the show get the message," Hryb writes in a blog post. "If you run into that person in Halo 3 who claims if they could have your LIVE ID name and password to recover your Xbox LIVE account to their Xbox and they'll rank you up or find you all the hidden skulls in Halo 3, I urge you not to fall to temptation."

If that 'friend' of yours decides not [to] return your account and buys a bunch of Arcade titles and movies on your account, there is nothing we can do except cancel the account since you willingly shared your information. Cancelled. As in you can never get it back

The guy tells you not to give random PPL you meet online your Username & Password because they might steal your MS Points and use them to buy Movies, games, and other things in the marketplace. He urges you not to do that because all they can do is CANCEL your account - which would destroy all of your saved games, your gamerscore etc...

In fact, Hyrb NEVER even once said that they would ban your accout if you even share it with strangers. He just said that if your account got stolen, all they could do is cancel it.

The Techp article makes it seem like MS will ban you if your friends beat games for you. Way to go Techpowerup!

No... The original message was, don't share your account and risk someone buying content off of marketplace. You won't be refunded.

The statement about modified (hacked) save game files was completely different. MS uses gamerpoints and achievements and sometimes gives rewards.

Not quite. If he comes over for a little fun and games, or to play a couple matches, everything's fine.

If he comes over, and says for $50 he'll get you those achievements you've been wanting for so long, then you could very well get your account banned.

Check the bottom of the post, I did ;).

I put the link to the original blog post so that people like Helvetica could make their own decisions about the story. Not so that they could give me crap about how my story is a little slanted, just because I'm doing my job (I summarized 1Up's news).

Well, them's the breaks. These are the things you have to deal with when playing in Microsoft's "trusted" environment.

Just more stupid nonsense Xbox crap. I personally dont care if someone cheats to get a high game score and what not. It does not affect my game playing ability.
