GeForce RTX 40 SUPER Custom Model Pricing Leaks Out

NVIDIA revealed basic price guides for GeForce RTX-40 SUPER graphics cards at the recently concluded CES 2024 trade show, but their board partners largely stayed coy about figures for customized options (review embargoes will be lifted soon). ZOTAC broke the mold later on in the week, with press material updated to reflect that non-overclocked models will adhere to Team Green's basic MSRP. However, premium charges for overclocked SUPER Twin Edge OC, AMP HOLO, Trinity OC and AMP Extreme AIRO cards remain a mystery. VideoCardz decided to conduct some weekend detective work, and fiddled around on Newegg and Best Buy online stores—although the focus shifted to other brands/manufacturers.

Workaround methods were implemented in order to prematurely extract card prices, before NVIDIA's staggered schedule of reveals for customized versions of the GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER, RTX 4070 Ti SUPER and RTX 4080 SUPER GPUs (throughout January). The leaked results show that GIGABYTE and PNY have custom overclocked GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER models targeting base MSRP at $599, while MSI has several options exceeding that base level—ranging from $10 to $50 premiums. GIGABYTE's GAMING OC card also tops the table at $649. Jumping up to the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER tier, we see a GIGABYTE Gaming OC model sitting at $849.99 and an MSI VENTUS 3X OC going for $899.99. The sole custom GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER within the VideoCardz article appears to be an MSI VENTUS 3X OC; we are witnessing a $100 extra tacked on for this design.

Yep, the "EU Common Market" got royally shafted by Nvidia, as far as Founders Editions are concerned. Even the resellers that somehow get some shipments of FE cards (like Notebooksbilliger.de) only get very small numbers, and are really strict about only selling in their country (Germany) - going as far as banning all resending options like MailBoxDe and others...

I do think the plan for Nvidia is to eventually ditch AIBs but they're clearly not there yet so all of this MSRP business is complete bs for a lot of markets. For better or worse we do get reference AMD cards here in EU at least for a while till AIBs come down in price.

It is true that Nvidia has been advancing against its own partners, eroding profit margins; People point the finger very quickly, forgetting that third-party products have the profit margin of Nvidia, AIBs and retailers combined.

However, it's important to note that the reference model is not available for sale in most parts of the world.

Well If Nvidia sells their own cards, the margin not only includes the one AIBs get, but also the one from selling the DIE to the AIBs.
But Nvidia can't make enough founders for the whole world, that is why AIBs exist.

~$620 was an absolute disgrace for a 12GB card in 2023, and that was last year.

In 2024 you need to be smart about your GPU buys.

• 8GB is entry-level and doesn't belong over $250, because this is the realm of ultra-cheap 1080p computing.
• 12GB is fine for the fastest growing gaming resolution (1440p). Decent 1440p monitors start at about $250, so they're no longer high-end and anyone remotely serious about gaming is likely to start at 1440p.
• 16GB is available from $449 from Nvidia, $329 from AMD, and $299 from Intel. If you want your games to run at max settings tomorrow as well as today, that is the minimum VRAM you should be looking at in 2024 for a GPU that you intend to still be using in 2026.

Oof +$100 over MSRP for a Ventus? I paid +$10 for a Ventus 1660 Super and it doesn't even have fan stop or power limit increase though it's a competent card with good thermals. The 4070 Ventus (also no Power Limit increase) is listed for MSRP so +$100 is crazy.

Choice will be limited and prices will remain high as long as everyone continues to buy just Nvidia.

There's plenty of choices. If you live in a country with a high VAT then don't blame Nvidia.

While almost everybody so far voted "no", there was actually some confusion about where these will land. Mostly because there were too many SKUs in the stack, before Nvidia announced they will retire some of them. Also the price of the 4080 SUPER can be considered a bit of a surprise, considering how Nvidia generally dislikes lowering prices, when they can repurpose chips for AI and sell them for even more $$$.

Always has been and it's fucking anoying, we already get a worse deal with VAT, tarifs and just asshole retaillers all around, buying an FE directly from Nvidia could be a great option but you can't even get them from retaillers let alone nvidia.

You can even buy them directly from AMD, though it's not always a good choice (only close to launch really) because they don't do sales.

100$ is not nothing, the price ladder between models is also only 200$, why not always buy the next no one? Because money doesn't grow on trees that's why

They can keep that card and try to find idiots to buy it. For less i get a RX 7900XTX including a waterblock. I'm not a fanboy who pays every price only to have a card of that brand.

I suspect MSRP is as irrelevant now as it was with the 3000 series launch. The market has established price/performance and it’s unlikely that will change suddenly when these cards go on sale. More likely, these cards’ cost will depend entirely on where they fall on that existing curve. I expect Nvidia will make sure to trickle out the Super chips so as not to depress existing prices. Same price maintenance strategy Jensen’s been touting on earnings calls every quarter.

As I see it, Nvidia right now doesn't even need to sell gaming cards. AIB partners do. But with the crypto craze rhey could cash in, because miners needed gaming cards - any cards at any price, when they were desperate enough.

AI craze is different. Almost nobody needs gaming cards - except where there are limitations on selling AI accelerators, and even that is very limited.

So I'm a bit sorry for all AIB partners now. I bet we'll even see prices go much higher than MSRP - because all the cards will be produced in very small numbers, Nvidia has already said it's dedicating production to AI.

And no gamer will be buying the overpriced cards, and AI people don't need them.

And suddenly EVGAs decision in September 2022 will make perfect sense.
