Today, Seagate Technology Holdings plc, a world leader in mass-data storage infrastructure solutions, launched the new Seagate IronWolf Pro 24 TB hard drive addresses the evolving data demands of SMB and enterprise network attached storage (NAS) environments. With capacities ranging from 2 TB to 24 TB, the Seagate IronWolf Pro portfolio is built to scale the needs of any growing business. With sustained transfer rates of 285 MB/s, a user workload rating of up to 550 TB/year, and 2.5M hours mean time between failures (MTBF), the new Seagate IronWolf Pro drives are engineered to deliver 24x7 uninterrupted performance, reliability, and dependability in multi-bay and multi-user collaborative environments.

The drives are optimized for NAS systems with Seagate's AgileArray technology. Using dual-plane balancing and time-limited error recovery (TLER), AgileArray helps deliver best-in-class performance in multi-bay systems. Additionally, the drives offer built-in rotational vibration (RV) sensors paired with dual plane balancing that addresses vibrations to deliver consistent high performance and reliability.

The Seagate IronWolf Pro drive is equipped with Seagate's IronWolf Health Management system helping to protect data with prevention, intervention, and recovery recommendations to ensure peak system health on compatible NAS systems. The Seagate Iron Wolf Pro also includes a five-year limited warranty and three years of Seagate Rescue Data Recovery Services.

The Seagate IronWolf Pro 24 TB is available now for $649.

$10k to upgrade my 16x 10TB Seagate's to the 24TB versions at that price.

I'll give that a miss for now.

Any idea how expensive datarecovery on a 24TB disk can be?

I run RAID6 so if a disk dies it goes in the bin and then I rebuild the array once a new disk is plugged back in.

Now to rebuild an array made out of 24TB disks will probably take upwards of a week.

That's the price of the 18 TB WD Gold here in Brazil. Interesting price, I feel a bit high for anything that isn't an enterprise-grade drive, but I suppose it does have 24 TB. The "sweet spot" for pricing right now in $ per TB seem to be the 14 TB drives. Sucks if you have room for only one drive and need a higher capacity one... my predicament exactly. That and the fact that I don't know if a drive of such extreme capacity will work with a Core 2-era motherboard that has a legacy Award BIOS (not as a boot drive, but just as attached storage) have stopped me from purchasing one so far.
