Redefining studio gear for a new era, the DT 770 PRO X Limited Edition is now available for pre-order at Guitar Center and Sweetwater for $199, with wider availability to come later in the year.

Strange. These come as a trio: 770 (closed), 880 (semi-open) and 990 (open). I wonder why they didn't do limited edition for each variant.

(Not that anyone asked, but I do own the 880 Pro. They're great.)

It could be too expensive to sell permanently at $199. Depending on how these sell, expect to see the driver in a different model in the future.

The dt700 pro x are out since quite a while now.

But I indeed don't understand this model. It seems to be the dt700 pro x but with another name on it.

Maybe people didn't understand that the dt700 was the new model and therefore had to adapt it?

The STELLAR.45 is already used in the DT 700 PRO X and DT 900 PRO X models. This new limited edition model could be a slightly re-jigged version of the 700 PRO X, just dressed up in Beyer's old school/traditional livery.

Weird release . They stuck with that mini xlr connector which is a pain to deal with , instead of using a balanced 3.5mm connection in each cup .Looks like the same or similar driver to the 700/900 pro x probably similar tuning to the 700 pro x but in a 770 pro shell

Well, it's a new model. "DT-700 PRO" VS. "DT-700 PRO X"

They also still sell the old no X versions, which comes down to a price difference of ~100€ in the German store. So really makes you thing twice if it's worth it, if you actually can hear a 100 buck difference.

That's a bit weird, their old school 770/990 design was not particularly good, the plastic piece that joins the headband and speaker support is prone to breaking, a flaw finally fixed with the 700/900 pro x versions

I'm surprised they didn't offer a hardcase accompanied by a "limited edition anniversary" price increase, but hey I'm not complaining 70$ cheaper is a pretty sweet deal

I've owned a 770 Pro and a 990 Pro for over 3 years. They're probably the sturdiest pair of headphones I've ever owned, that includes the Sennheiser HD 280 Pro's(old, dying drivers), the ATH-M50x(dead driver), Shure 840's(snapped speaker-headband support) & Sennheiser 840s(secondary). You'd have to twist REAL hard, quite often, to break the plastic joiner on the headphones or be a serial neck-hanger(on a pair of headphones clearly not suited for that task).

I personally think it would've been nice ti simply see the 770 Pro updated with the detachable cable. That's all it needed in my opinion.

DT-770 Pros are great cans (80 & 250 especially) same with the 990 Pro - removable cables and maybe simpler pad swaps would be nice.

Strange release indeed.

DT770 never sat well on my head... thus I still preferred the older DT-150 tank, no matter what I tried. Thus why Headphone reviews are a weird thing, it all depends on our head, ear, ear canal sizes and hearing loss specifics. The only way is to test on your own, how it fits not how it fits on someone else head.

I have replaced blown DT-150 with Tesla T1 gen1 drivers few years ago. When measuring curves it really didn't have much humps as it was designed for it in the first place.

What headphone amp do you use with your T1 gen 1? Mine require a lot of power, I have a Lake People amp that I use for them.

I make my own amps mate. I have the 250ohm ones driven from OTL tube amp. A simple pair of 6AS7 with Sylvania 6SN7GTA at the front. ~ 150V swing... so current ain't an issue. It helps to damp down the bright signature when paired like that. It usually is all about matching devices.

I agree, reason why i opted to mod my DT770 (80ohm) to dual 3.5mm instead of mini xlr because of how bulky the cable was. Gives me more freedom.
