Director Hideaki Itsuno and Producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi were on hand to explain some exciting announcements surrounding the release of their upcoming title, Dragon's Dogma 2. Players will be able to party up with as many as three AI-driven "Pawn" characters; the decisions the player makes throughout the game will impact the relationships between their own Arisen and other characters, as well as the interactions and dynamics between those AI characters.

How one tackles quest objectives and interactions with other characters is what drives these systems, and sometimes hinges on the player's ability to employ creative solutions to avoid physical altercations (think: bribery, counterfeiting objects, etc). In a world comprised of over 1000 unique characters, the player's choices will have a dramatic ripple effect on the interpersonal dynamics among them.

Additionally, Itsuno and Hirabayashi showed the Dragon's Dogma 2 Character Creator and Storage tool.

Available for free to download now, the tool provides players the option to create up to five unique designs for their Arisen and Main Pawn characters each, and will be instantly transferred to the full game when Dragon's Dogma 2 drops on March 22 for Xbox Series X|S—the game is also currently available for pre-order. The company plans to release official Capcom support Pawns created by renowned content creators in the near future as well.

Ian McShane will present a "Welcome to Dragon's Dogma 2" featurette later today:

Just got the OG game installed on my Steambox, look forward to giving it a shot this weekend. I've heard mixed things, mostly that the minute to minute gameplay is amazing, but the world/plot/story are very very ho-hum mostly due to budget and time constraints of the original game.

My understanding is that DD2 is more like a "reboot/relaunch" than a true sequel, but that's OK given the cyclic nature of the game's core premise.

I was really interested in playing the first one. It looked like something I could get into...after about 4 hours of playing the game I uninstalled and I never looked back. It just didn't do anything for me. Hopefully you find some enjoyment from it.

To be honest the Game was best enjoyed when you could get one of your friends Arisen at like level 30 when the rest of your crew is level 8.

It's amusing how, despite having noticeably better models, animations, and world decorations, one can easily mistake this game for its prequel. Colour grading doing what colour grading does.
Now, tell us about the plans for Bitterblack...

It is indeed a game to have mixed feelings about. One of those you burn >200hrs on yet still say you "hate" it.
It has its annoying parts. Pawns being imbeciles is one of them, and a generally empty world is another. One advice before you get started: Get used to opening the inventory twice to unequip and reequip the lantern.

That was my experience too. It just didn't stick, felt like a worse mix/clone of Final Fantasy vs WoW.

Might still look into this at some point tho..

When I originally got it, I played for an hour or so and then put it down. The game has an extremely slow start.

A bit later, I forced myself to push through the intro, and I absolutely fell in love with it. I've probably completed the story a dozen times now.

My advice is to play the game in hard mode (for increased XP and gold) and use the difficulty switch exploit to constantly redo an early quest that gives like 30K XP each time.

The original was one of my favourite games when I was rocking my PS3. It was kind of a sleeper hit for me; I went in without any expectations and ended up pouring dozens upon dozens of hours into it.

So looking forward to the new game. I've created my characters using the tool on Steam. Very cool touch to release this before the game comes out. I'll be good to go now on release.
