MINISFORUM Unveils its First Portable Monitor

Today, MINISFORUM officially released its first portable monitor, the MSS-A156, which features a 15.6-inch QHD 144 Hz touchscreen display. The monitor is now available for purchase on the MINISFORUM official store at a price of US$189. MSS-A156 boasts an aluminium alloy body, emphasizing a lightweight and stylish design. With dimensions of 357x223x4mm and weighing approximately 900 g, it also comes with a magnetic protective cover that prevents scratches and doubles as a stand.

The display specifications of this portable monitor are impressive. It features a 15.6-inch IPS panel with a resolution of 2560x1440, covering 100% of the DCI-P3 color gamut. With color accuracy (ΔE) below 2, a contrast ratio of 1000:1, peak brightness of 400 nits, and a 144 Hz refresh rate, it caters to both everyday multimedia and professional design tasks. The MSS-A156 supports 10-point touch, allowing content creators to interact directly with the screen using their fingers. Even without an external keyboard and mouse, it meets most usage scenarios.



The ports are located on the left side of the screen and include a 3.5 mm headphone jack, MicroUSB, two full-featured USB-C ports, and a Mini HDMI port.

MINISFORUM's Mini PC often support Power Delivery (PD) and can directly connect to this portable monitor using a single USB-C cable, eliminating the need for a separate power supply.

I’ve researched these portable monitors. They are almost never worth the premium for being made portable at the given specs. Some go for almost $500 for just 1080p and under 20 inches.

Yeah, well, there are people who want some high refresh rate stuff below 20". Including me, and not even for bringing it anywhere with me. And this is 1440p, for 190 bucks.

Not sure why you need a 20” screen even though you don’t care about portability but that’s a very niche case. For the rest of us who don’t care about portability as well, $50 more gives you a 27” screen.

That's a lot of features for the price, I'm really interested in minisforum products and will likely buy a mini pc from them at some point as some of them are tremendous value for money, they also have great discounts and offers on from time to time as well making it even better value, have been close to buying from them on a couple of occasions, however think I will wait for a deal on one of the higher end zen4 apu PC's

Well I like their mini-me boxes too, but the "micro-usb" thing makes this an instant, auto NO-BUY for me.....not that I need a mini monitor or anything, but even IF I did, it would certainly NOT be one that had such an antique, outdated POS port that's for sure

Granted it is an odd inclusion, however, you don't have to use it, like the 3.5m jack or the speakers likely will not be used, not sure why that would be a reason not to buy it if it's just there and doesn't need to be used

Is this a monitor or a Tablet? Minisforum just announced an AMD powered 'gaming tablet' running Windows, didn't look too deeply but assuming they have a lot of displays and maybe are splitting the product line based on need...windows 11 tablet and "portable monitor" with high end specs (?).

This is a monitor.

The micro-usb can be in there because there are older phones, but mostly cameras that are still in use and they just have a micro-usb connector, so you don't need a converter.
For this price, the best I can get is a Full HD, 60Hz portable monitor. The 144Hz is one and a half times the price (it's FHD) and for a 2k screen it's double the price.
Edit:I wouldn't normally be able to get it because they don't ship to Hungary (although I'm not desperate to get one).

Just snagged a decent 144hz 1080p 16" online for ~$80 USD the other day, yet to be delivered, but I do have a few great uses for a capable and portable monitor.

Some are just priced so crazy to me, but I an see a few niche needs for them.
