Diablo 4 was kind of a flash in the pan. The latest I read is that it generated 666 million USD (that's cute) in revenue and at it's high point in August last year had 12 million players but it seems to have died off pretty quick. Hardly hear anything more about it lately.

It has no ongoing content. We're on season 3 and here's what we have so far:
  1. Season of the Malignant = a tiny add-on that offered little beyond some additional hearts that completely broke the game balance. (yes, I had a bone spear/barber necro soloing a 12-player, 15-minute world boss in 3 hits, aka 4 seconds). The class imbalance was worsened this season, not improved.
  2. Season of Blood = generally well received. Possibly too little too late though, as the overwhelming majority of players had already walked away from D4 after the previous 5-months of noob developer mistakes.
  3. Season of the Construct = everyone hates it. I've not played it, but it's very hard to find a single positive opinion of this season. This was the season when a couple of notable D4 streamers simply quit in disgust.
Diablo IV is probably perma-dead.
Blizzard is probably perma-dead. This was their last chance and they rushed and greeded their way to failure.

Microsoft may have been too late to save it, only time will tell...
