MSI today released firmware updates for its MPG 271QRX QD-OLED and MPG 321URX QD-OLED gaming monitors. The updates are aimed at giving end-users control over DSC (display stream compression), to improve image quality when the display I/O bandwidth permits. This control is in the form of an OSD-level toggle for DSC DLDSR and DSR modes. For the MPG 271QRX QD-OLED, the update also adds a mode switch between HDMI Console and HDMI PC, with the default being Console. The update also packs optimizations to improve input lag and the monitor's share in whole-system latency. The update also includes aspect-ratio selection in the OSD for the MPG 321URX QD-OLED. A white-line artifact on the MPG 271QRX QD-OLED when using 2560 x 1440 @ 360 Hz has been fixed. Visit the support section of the product pages of your monitor for instructions on how to get and install the firmware updates.

The change-log follows.
FW.010 Firmware update information
  • DSC switch added to the OSD to enable DLDSR and DSR modes.
  • MPG 271QRX QD-OLED: Added HDMI PC/Console switch in the OSD. (MPG 271QRX QD-OLED default setting is "Console" mode.)
  • Support for a variety of aspect ratios, MPG 321URX QD-OLED allows selection between a 24.5" and 27" option, MPG 271QRX QD-OLED allows 24.5".
  • Fixed Color Gamut clamping while HDR is enabled. HDR mode will now store separate present mode settings.
  • Optimized multiple language issues.
  • Fixed image flicker issue when VRR is enabled.
  • Added "Power LED" switch in the OSD to allows users to turn it off.
  • Input lag and latency optimization.
  • Fixed problem with white line during 2560x1440 @ 360 Hz. (MPG 271QRX QD-OLED only).
  • Fixed displayed abnormal (dark screen) after VRR switched.
  • Optimize a behavior of panel protect while protect completed that depends as executing power states.

This why the 32" MPG is well worth the $50 more than the MAG version as it gets fw updates, has many more features is is just far better value.

That's why you should be able to update the firmware on all models? The HDMI console mode being default is annoying, you'll be playing at 4k on your 1440p monitor without it asking you. Glad they are fixing that.

Can they stick the firmware version on the front of the box for the MAG model??? :p

It should be mandatory to have the option to do firmware updates on the devices and not an argument to upsell the other stuff.

I agree, but given the MPG is only $50 more I don't know why you would get the mag anyway given the extra other features. MAG needs to be $200 cheaper IMO, but fw updates should be non-negotiable.

Yeah, that's for sure, it is just stupid to upsell a feature which should be included anyway in my opinion (aside the other things)

When you've got an extremely tight budget, like the overwhelming majority of the world's people have, that $50 could be the difference between more or faster RAM, a faster CPU or GPU, etc or maybe they just don't have it at all....

I don't get why MSI even bothered doing 2 different models, they are definitely sharing the same panel and almost certainly the same scaler and all the electronics, if someone opens one I bet you'll see the empty pads for the USB ports on the pcb. Why go through the trouble of doing a new plastic shell case and manage 2 separate products to save a few bucks on connectors!? They get an higher margin on the more expensive products (the changes don't cost anywhere near 50$) and anyone shopping at this tier shouldn't care for the price difference, it's absurd on every level - and they're not even the only ones doing this, maybe the worst offenders but Gigabyte and HP were also shipping different versions of the same monitor with only small variations.

So you are buying a $1000 monitor to game but you are so poor. Plenty of monitors under $300 that'll do the job.

Really glad they added this feature. It was one of hardwareunboxed biggest gripes and a concern of mine as well.
The URX was originally intended to sell at $1200 afaik, and the UPX model at $900, which is why it seems silly not to spend $50 more for the URX model now that it sells for a mere $950.
As soon as I can find one in stock, I am pulling the trigger!
