GeIL booth was packed with all kinds of memories, anyone could find something for their taste, but our eyes gazed in hope at a few (yet) CAMM2 / LPCAMM2 memory samples. GeIL says that those are capable of supporting data transfer rates up to 8533 MT/s with up to 128 GB capacity. Just next to those a myriad of DDR5 with up to 8400 MT/s and RGB features were trying to catch attention. TUF Gaming Alliance, Orion V RGB (with integrated power management on the DIMM), the EVO V series with active dual fan cooling system, or Polaris family to which GeIL feels the need to mention that it fits most CPU coolers without mechanical interference.

Someone should tell the company that "geil" means horny in German. I know it's been going on for years, but that doesn't change the unfortunate nature of the word... :p

IIRC, 8533 MT/s would be around 4266MHz (1066Mhz) and 8400 would be 4200MHz (1050Mhz).

Thanks to the highly international nature of TPU, we also know that ...
As a Dutchie, its just too good, this company name. Especially because the products, often really do look... geil*.

*Horny.

Not just that, in Germany its used as 'slang' for anything that's 'great'. Right?

Been skiing enough to know that coming down a slope can be considered SUPERGEIL!

It's not really garbage, it's what memory speed should've used in the first place. Since DDR stands for 'Double Data Rate', there's two memory transfers per each clock cycle, but manufacturers incorrectly use 'MHz' where they should've used MT/s.

For example, DDR4-3200 (often marketed as '3200MHz' actually have the memory runs at 1600MHz (effectively 3200 transactions every seconds since it's 2 transfer per clock)

If you're not bothered about using the correct terminology, just understand that when speeds are specified in MT/s it's effectively the same as what you would've thought of as 'MHz'. For example, the ones in this article (8533MT/s would usually be (wrongly) called DDR5-8533MHz in normal marketing materials)

Understanding this distinction between actual memory clock rate and transfer rate will also explain GPU memory rates (which are usually quad-pumped and therefore transfer rates are 4x clock speed)

You are right of course. Just like a certain English 4 letter word that starts with F and ends with K has been (ab)used to convey a plethora of meanings. No wonder they call it "the most versatile word in the English language". Still, whenever I see any mention of a product from "GeIL" my mind immediately enters the gutter. :D
