XFX has prepared its newest "Magnetic Air" series of Radeon RX 7000 series GPUs with hot-swappable fans for the US market, where they were only exclusive to the Chinese region. The company has informed us that the series will be called "Magnetic Air," instead of the previously believed "MagAir." Comprising the XFX Qicksilver Radeon RX 7800 XT Magnetic Air and the XFX Mercury Radeon RX 7900 XTX Magnetic Air, these GPUs are now available for purchase in the US, with an official launch date set for June 18. What sets the Magnetic Air series apart is its unique cooling design, featuring Honeywell PTM 7950 phase-changing thermal pads that offer superior thermal conductivity. The cooling system boasts 216 ultra-thin matrix fins strategically arranged in a high and low structure to optimize airflow, while the heatsink is attached to a vapor chamber for efficient heat dissipation. Additionally, the backplate is crafted from durable aluminium die-cast, ensuring long-lasting performance.

The XFX Qicksilver Radeon RX 7800 XT Magnetic Air is available in both white and black variants, priced at $529.99, while the XFX Mercury Radeon RX 7900 XTX Magnetic Air carries a price tag of $979.99. The most innovative feature of the Magnetic Air series is its swappable fan design, allowing users to customize their cooling setup to suit their specific needs. This level of flexibility is sure to appeal to enthusiasts and overclockers seeking optimal performance from their rigs. Currently, only the black variants of the 7900XTX and 7800XT are in stock, but all Magnetic Air models are expected to be available on the official launch date of June 18 for PC enthusiasts in the United States.

[Editor's note: Our in-depth review of the RX 7900 XTX Magnetic Air is now live]

I think it's a little funny how the XTX barely budged from the original MSRP through all the vicious reviews and then the 4080 Super's launch/"price drop". There's almost $300 gap to their next closest GPU which is like 90% the performance.

AMD seems to have a strange notion of halo products, they think just having a high price is enough?

not sure what you are talking about, got my 7900 XT in July 2023 for $705 brand new shipped and sold by amazon, and that price included tax - and it overclocked well, beating a stock XTX in every benchmark and game by a smidge.

$705 for raster performance thats only 30 fps slower than a rtx 4090 in several games at 1440p is pretty damn good deal

also XFX has been an amazing company to deal with, they treated me very well when I had to contact them over an issue. :)

also the card runs ice cold. ^^

Wish these cards were available few months back when I picked up Red Devil. Easy to swap fans certainly are helpful in dusty env of Deccan plateau.

Even Sapphire used to offer this feature before being killed of in last gen or two.

I've used XFX's stuff before & generally liked them, but as already stated, this approach has been done before, so them trying to make it out as some "god's gift to pc/gammin" is a bit disparaging IMO, and seems like just ANOTHER way to fragment the already over-saturated, mega-sku'd GPU market with something that 99% of folk will never really get all that excited about, let alone need or use for anything worthwhile, except maybe trying to garner some more epeen from their fellow dweebers...

They just couldn't help themselves.....they just had to add that red line to the black version, didn't they? I get Radeon has red as it's color, but 99.99% of customers would just want black....when is the cliche, played out trope of red & black being thr "gamer aesthetic" finally going to go away?

But what if XFX made girthier fans... Say 18 or 20mm instead of 15mm so you could buy them as an optional upgrade for more cooling?

In my mind, I think hot swap fans are literally fans that are, spinning at full speed, you just take your finger....ouch...then pull the blade off, replace it with something else and back to spinning...

Theyve been doing the red and black thing ever since they switched to AMD.

This so much. I've straight up removed the shroud + fans and bolted my fans to the top of the case instead. Some people don't care much about the size of the card.

I'm also baffled by this release. What's the point? Isn't AMD going to introduce a replacement for the XTX in less than a year? This just feels like a weird attempt to refresh the cards as "new" and be in the marketing limelight. Silly season for GPU's I guess.

Personally, this should become the norm, rather than the exception. Sapphire still does a similar quick-replaceable fan setup with their Nitro series of cards; allowing for either swapping a different fan color (in the Pre-Vega days; now it's just ARGB options), or just making it easier to clean or replace when broken.

I do wonder if they'll go ahead and also port over the 4-slot behemoth, or if that will be repurposed for the half-step next-gen from AMD.

Hopefully the fans are reliable enough. But this should be the open standard, across all AIB cards, no matter which camp they belong to. The ease of cleaning is so much underrated... this is even impossible to compare, how much ihis approach differs to the regular "under shoud" mounting.

As much as the time and effort overhead, the consumers and the tech support avoid dealing with, when the fans can be just swapped. Especially outside the US, where warranty stickers are set in stone, and prevent users from cleaning HW themselves.

Also, the "detachable shroud" concept should become a thing either, to clean the dust, without the need of the cooler disassebly. Only couple brands do this, e.g. Sapphire Pulse.

not sure what you are talking about, got my 7900 XT in July 2023 for $705 brand new shipped and sold by amazon, and that price included tax - and it overclocked well, beating a stock XTX in every benchmark and game by a smidge.

That's actually why I respect XFX. THey seems to outsell any other AMD AIB, by miles, including the other dedicated partners like Sapphire and TUL, while having the quality on par, if not better. And simultaneously their marketing still stayed more or less humble, compared to the pervasive Asus and co.

Even Sapphire used to offer this feature before being killed of in last gen or two.
I myself, was upset, and responsible for such kind of thoughts, as well...

High end and halo isn't the same thing tho. One could argue there is no such thing as a halo consumer GPU these days, just expensive high end ones.

Yeah, i'd much rather have to unscrew a standard easy to source 120mm or even 92mm than have to source this proprietary magnetic crap.

Unfortunately not a typo, just cringe marketing from XFX :shadedshu:

currently 99.99% customers never replace their GPU cooler/fans, so the "hot swappable fans" thing is mostly marketing fuss.
but !
there are 2 reasons why people buy hot swappable keyboards :
1. if you don't like your contactors you can replace the whole set
2.if one contactor dies after few years you don't need the thraw away the whole damn keyboard.

regarding graphic cards, it would be :
1. fans eventually dies, they rarely do, but just in case your are covered.
2. for valentine's day you have no girlfriend but like others you wanna waste 50$ into something sexy for your beloved one, so you buy yourself a pair of Noctua or Bequiet or XFX gold/red color fans for your GPU, and on that day you feel the most happy guy on earth for all the love she brings you.

no, seriously...I would definitely buy noctua fans for my GPU if they were hot swappable.
